Grabovski - Under the Watchful Eye Of An Angel

Anyone know if 'Hockey Break' twitter is reliable? Claims that Grabbo and Burke/Leafs have entered preliminary contract talks...

If it is true, I applaud Burke, as he may be trying to get him under contract, before he starts playing like he did last year. Maybe he can keep the price down a bit. Grabovski, by his own words, seems to want to stay a Maple Leaf for a long time, so it's possible that Burke wants to try a get him under contract, or at least understand how much it's going to cost him. If it ends up being too much, Burke can start looking for a trade deal now and know exactly what the landscape is going to be by the deadline, because if Grabbo becomes a UFA, he's going to be in higher demand and end up costing the Leafs a lot more to keep him and they risk him walking for nothing.

Whether its true or not, that's the kind of news that the rumour mongers love to make up. If they're right, they have connections, if they're wrong, then "the contract talks were started but put on hold".

Unless the person running the account is affiliated with some sort of newspaper/media outlet, you should just go ahead and assume that it's not a legit account. When they don't provide a real name it's also usually a clear giveaway.

I'm stating the obvious but I'd really like to hear an extension announcement soon.  :-\

+1

Anything + / - $5M will be a steal.  4 year deal would be fantastic.  I didn't think it would come to pass, but he certainly is looking like a poor man's Datsuyk and you just can't let an asset like that walk.

I think he'll get close to $5M (I suspect more like $4.5M or so), but I wouldn't go so far as calling it a steal. Him at $2.9M is a steal.

Freidman, in his latest "30 thoughts" stated that Grabovski's camp is looking for Kessel-esque money (near the 5.4mill range) and the Leafs don't want to go over 5M.

Considering he's older than Kessel and his output is significantly less, I don't see those demands holding much water. I wouldn't go to/over 5 for Grabs, as much as I like him.

Kessel is a steal at 5.4 right now, wait until his next contract comes up.

Burke should be able to intimidate him in contract negotiations though....

24 years old and he's top 5 in scoring right now.  If he continues on this path the next 2 seasons the Leafs will have to open up the wallet dearly.

Hopefully. Not watching the game, so, I don't know. Hopefully, someone who is can clear things up there.
