DarrenDreger: Offer on the table for Grabovski. More on that, Rick Nash and details on Kubina avail coming up in Insider Trading. #nhlontsn

Contract offer I'd imagine..?

Hopefully. Not watching the game, so, I don't know. Hopefully, someone who is can clear things up there.

See my edit...

I'd be annoyed if they moved him for futures without a replacement.

DarrenDreger: For those unable to see Insider Trading. Offer for Grabovski is for a 2nd rnd pick and prospect. Could get more. Still hope to re-sign him.

Unless that prospect is someone like Huberdeau, that offer is pretty insulting.

He said Toronto has an offer of a 2nd and a prospect.

That'd have to be one hell of a prospect for me to make the deal, unless Burke has no interest in keeping Grabovski.

1st and a prospect, i take it.

Again, that would depend on the prospect. The most recent reports on this year's draft have it as a very top heavy group with a serious drop off in talent after the top 12 or so. Unless we're talking about a bubble team that ends up missing the playoffs . . . that better a pretty darn good prospect for the Leafs to give up such a big piece of their roster in the middle of their own playoff push.

Agreed. Will be steamed if they give up on the playoffs. Something like Carter-Grabovski-Bozak-Steckel would be ideal down the middle though.

I guess, in theory, Colborne or Kadri could come up and take his spot and replace some of what Grabovski provides, but, it would still be a pretty significant drop off. Like I said, unless that prospect is Huberdeau or equivalent (which, obviously, is unlikely), I don't see it happening.

Agreed, but he's a prime target to be moved.  I love him, but I just think he should be traded now because of his contract, his age, his success, and the way he plays.  I love the way he plays, but I have a hunch he'll be injured for most of his career once he's in his 30s.

It would be nice to get another Jake, or Aulie like players, or maybe 3 like players.

Ummm, so NO.  If Burke trades him for that garbage I might honestly walk away from the team until the offseason.  No Grabovski = one-dimensional roster.  And quite frankly, any reluctance to sign Grabbo at 5.4 has to directly relate to wasting 13.5 million dollars in cap space on Connolly+Armstrong+Komisarek+Lombardi.  It's crap if they throw away one of the few players on the team who actually gives an effort consistently.

I think Burke would rather let Grabs walk on July 1st then trade him for futures, unless the offer of course it too good to be true. He needs to make the playoffs, for both the obvious reason and to justify the extension to gave to Wilson.

We just have to retain him...

... Unless Burke has a deal in the works for that true #1 centre and feels the pieces he gets for Grabs are needed to reload the gun.

I'm trying to drop Huberdeau's name into this thread as much as possible in the hopes that somehow, that might make it come true. So, you know, Huberdeau. Huberdeau. Huberdeau.

Didn't you hear? When he was 13 he was quoted as saying he would never play for the Leafs during gym class.

edit: Also, Huberdeau.

That's so Huberdeau of Huberdeau. I mean, that's the kind of stuff you expect Huberdeau to spread all around the Huberdeau.

Why do you think Florida might be the team?...

Also. Huberdeau.

I don't really, though, I could definitely see them thinking about shoring up their forwards to try to hold on to the division lead. But, it's mainly because the best prospect on a potential buyer that came to mind that really fits the Leafs' needs is Huberdeau.

And, you know, Huberdeau.

Ah.... Other buying teams who might be looking for a top 2 centre (just off the top of my head) also include Chicago, Jersey, Pittsburgh maybe... I haven't looked at their prospect lists.

and.... Huberdeau.

When'n is Backstrom back? Washington maybe?

I think he'd be a good fit there regardless of when Backstrom returned. Problem is aside from Kuznetsov nothing jumps out at me from their prospect pool, and I doubt the Caps trade him. Then again, the Panthers will almost certainly not trade Huberdeau.

Hubernetzov.
