Grabovski - Under the Watchful Eye Of An Angel

The return should compare to the Kaberle deal, otherwise no dice.

Yeah, I was thinking about that last night and considering the market isn't just one team as it was with Kaberle, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a similar return.

I can see at least a couple of teams that have trouble scoring that would over pay for a skilled guy like Grabovski. NYR for once. Dunno if you want to make that deal since we are most likley be playing them in the 1st round but they are but one example.

LA Kings might be another. They have had huge problems scoring all year, which are even worse with Mike Richards going into the tank after being concussed and Jarrett Stoll a shadow of his former self.  They need something to help push them the final stretch and no team more badly needs offense than them.  Not sure what I would want from their depth chart.. its not that enthralling after Bernier.  Picks I guess.

Still for Burke to make the move the return has to be one of those "how can I refuse" things that significantly improves the long-term outlook for the team.

I would love Brown. He scores and hits but is having a really off year. Might be obtainable at a somewhat manageable price.

Yeah LA would be ideal. The fit is almost perfect.

What's Penner's contract like?

Expiring... and he could make for an interesting piece for the push but if we're talking in the context for a Grabs trade, it better be inclusive of a very nice piece coming back with Penner.

Agreed. Or at least a nice pick.

Seems a bit drastic for LA to trade him at the deadline, but anything is possible I guess.

But again... I only do it if the asset coming back with Penner is needed to reload the gun because we've used a couple bullets to acquire a top notch player in another deal.

Does Burke hold any grudge with Penner dealing with him signing that offer sheet?

I hope not. I mean any time you have the opportunity to trade for a guy making 4.25 million on an expiring contract, who's been a healthy scratch recently, whose fitness and work ethic have been repeatedly questioned by his coaches and who injured himself eating pancakes I mean, how do you turn that down?

We're talking about a guy who gave Komisarek 25 million dollars.

Acquiring Penner in any sort of deal for the duration of season (in my mind) probably does little for us... but, there's an outside chance there's something left there... I really don't know.

... and Huberdeau.

So it's a good trade provided he turns it on for some mystery reason and the Leafs can keep him away from dangerous breakfast foods?

Like waffles?

No, seriously, what would have to happen for the interest in Penner to fall to zero? Would he have to be on trial for manslaughter? An avowed racist? A shambling corpse of a man with an open wound and an outspoken craving for brains?
