Eemeli Rasanen is the pick. Who'da thunk it?

Looking at options for the 2nd round pick in the kind of interesting department: Eemeli Rasanen is big(6'7 200lbs), a right handed shot and doesn't appear to just be a lump(39 points).

Swish!

LeBrun says NYI gets a 1st and 2 2nds, with CGY getting a 4th
Glad we didn't make that deal. Not sure what the 2018 draft is shaping up to be but looks like the Flames have pretty much written it off. Leafs extending JVR to a reasonable contract wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. But if he wants money out-of-line with building a contender, best to move him. He may command best price at next year's trade deadline (like Shattenkirk this past year) for a team that wants to win now and wants to go for broke.

I don't think Calgary has written off the 2018 draft, they're just making a play to get better right away because they think they've got their core in place. They have Gaudreau, Monahan, Bennett and Tkachuk up front and now have one of the best top 4s in the league. They could very well have added Hamonic for a late 1st and two late 2nds.

And I don't think St. Louis did well in trading Shattenkirk at all.

Fedor Gordeev is the 5th round pick.

Toronto native, big defenseman(6'6, 210), played for Flint.

He played in the VHL and MHL last year, I've never heard of those leagues.

19 years old, from a league no one follows.  I'm not sure why the Leads seem adamant on drafting guys who have been looked over time and time again as a draft strategy.

I don't have a problem with rolling the dice with a 4th round pick, but when it's a 2nd round pick...

For what it's worth, recent models have production in the MHL being roughly comparable to production in the CHL in terms of projecting future potential.

Even if that's true then as a 19 year old he scored 20 points in 31 games whereas the next forward drafted after him was 19 year old Tyler Steenbergen who scored 90 points in 72 CHL games.

Flames take what might be the best name in the draft with D'Artagnan Joly.

Might be?

There's some good ones. Nicklaus Perbix, Sebastian Walfriddson, Erik Walli Walterholm and Grant Mismash are all solid entries.

Yes, those are all good ones and Mismash is pretty awesome.  Not as flashy maybe, but I'm really glad we have an Eemeli.  Finnish names are the best (in my biased opinion).
