Leafs acquire Brandon Carlo

Yup by a mile and can join the rush better then most D men in the league. Having Carlo back there will give him more freedom to go.
I agree that the coaches can now cherry-pick how they utilize Reilly. Whether it's with a stronger partner or offensive zone faceoffs. Having a stronger D core should allow Reilly more freedom.

I am hopeful he comes off the LTIR in the playoffs and sort of think the signing was LTIR circumvention plan the entire time. If he plays it's a bonus, if he doesn't we got the cap space. Why not have a bunch LTIR guys in your back pocket if you can swing it?

I would think that too if Hakanpaa wasn't making just $1.5m.

With Carlo in and Timmins+Dewar out, Reaves sent to the Marlies, and Pacioretty placed on LTIR the Leafs would have a 22 man roster that's about $400k over the cap. So there must be some retention involved here.

Let's put it this way: they have been trying for years to find someone to play with Morgan Rielly. If Carlo doesn't gell with Rielly, the problem is Rielly, not Carlo, and it's time to move on from 44. And I say that as someone who's a moderate fan of Mo.
