Leafs @ sens - Oct. 12th, 7:00pm - SN, TSN 1050

one positive about andersen is that he handles the puck really well.  He is confident with the puck and picks his spots well.

one thing that I was kinda ticked about last night waswatching the oilers highlights and seeing mcdavid awarded a penalty shot and I couldn't even see where he was touched...to me it looked like he was cleanly poke checked by elliot.  Meanshile marner had 2 breakaways, one where he was hooked and slashed the whole way to the net and the other where he had his feet taken out from under him and was spun into the end boards with no penalty on either.

brutal non calls.

also the leafs PP needs work

Can't blame the fans for loosing it over bad goal tending. We have overpaid dearly for Toskala, Bernier, and Raycroft. Hopefully we have not overpaid for Andersen. A last place team with no expectation of making a run for it any time soon trades a first and second round pick for a goalie...

If it turns out Andersen is legitimately a bad goalie, that will be frustrating(I didn't like the trade at the time and still don't) but I can blame fans for ridiculously overreacting to one game that was as much a product of bad defense as it was bad goaltending.

And we didn't overpay for Bernier.

Agreed.

I'm all for calling last night a bad game, but anyone drawing any conclusions from it needs to be shot directly into the centre of the sun.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of Andersen.  I think it was a bad trade and probably a move that the team is going to regret.  That isn't because of any insider knowledge and is entirely my uneducated opinion.  None of this is on the basis of a useless preseason or Game 1 of 82 when Andersen was brought in to play 50-60+ games.

Agreed. Andersen's not-great game might easily be the fault of a lingering injury and some poor play in front of him. He is surely better than that. But that doesn't mean the trade or, more importantly, the contract was a good idea.

Pfft. Sample size, Shmample Shmize.

The other thing that strikes me as a tad disingenuous about the Andersen thursday morning quarterbacking - is that the overwhelming majority of the thoughtful criticism hinged upon whether his acquisition made sense considering the stage of the rebuild - not that he wasn't a solid goalie, which appears to be where the discontent is building around a single weakish game thereof.

A bucket of pucks would have been over payment.

There was also a school of criticism that said he was a 'bad goalie' but that it doesn't make sense, at this stage of his career, to think of Andersen as a long-term starter, so why commit to him being one?

I appreciate the sentiment, but it is actually exceedingly difficult to hit the centre of the sun as you'd have to exactly negate the Earth's substantial orbital velocity.

Glorious:

We'd better start seeing Rielly - Zaitsev; Gardiner - Carrick; Marincin - Polarrado now that Hunwick is mercifully unavailable.

Well, except for the perfectly legitimate conclusion that Matthews is a god among mortals.
