Leafs @ sens - Oct. 12th, 7:00pm - SN, TSN 1050

17 goaltenders since Eddie Belfour. I have a feeling this team will deserve a good one. Is Freddie the answer? Let's hope it's just nerves and injury rust...

On a lighter note... AUSTON FRICKEN MATTHEWS!!! NHL record! First game!

5 year contract knowing he allowed 19 goals in his last 4 games with the Ducks. Head scratcher for sure, hopefully he gets it back together and isn't another Raycroft.

Just a hunch but they may have considered the other 121 games he played with the Ducks as relevant too.

Shanahan and Company have to find another goaltender!  Then, they have to wait till he PROVES himself before handing over a BIG payday to him!

I'm with you! I think we've seen enough of this guy by now to know he's not going to be any good.

You know, at one point the Habs almost traded Carey Price and kept Halak instead?  There was a time when the Leafs scored 8 goals on Lundqvist.  Also, they scored 10 against Tim Thomas one time as well.  Lets just see where this team is at around game 20.  I think it will be a different story.  I think the defence will be a bit stronger and the offence may be having a bit of trouble.

So disappointing to lose on that debut by Matthews. Perfect night ruined by shoddy goaltending again.

As they did with Raycroft. Anderson got rocked in his last games with the Ducks, and didn't play well in preseason, I'm not saying he can't get it back together but right now he doesn't look to good, hope he doesn't turn out to be another Raycroft.

Awesome debut by Matthews! Him skating through the entire Sens team for his 2nd goal blew me away. If this is any indication of what we are in store for I'd say we are going to have some fun this season and beyond!  It says a lot about the kids character too when he says the winning goal was on him even though he just scored 4 goals and singlehandedly earned the Leafs a point tonight. :)

So I looked it up and this just isn't true. His last 4 games with the Ducks he let in 7 goals and had a .933 SV%

Playoffs or regular season?

Never mind, it says playoffs.  Yeah it's not true.

Definitely!

I don't know why that would change things but it's not true either way. He's not as good in his last four regular season goals but he didn't let in 19 goals there either. He let in 12, 6 in one particularly bad start and three in one where he got pulled.

Sorry wiki states that he let in 4 or more goals in each of the final games of the 2015 playoffs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederik_Andersen

Right. It's 2016 though. That's more than a season ago.

I thought there might be a misunderstanding.

Ok I get that now, but my point still stands, he hasn't played well in preseason and let in some stinkers tonight,  has played bad in the past,  I hope he gets it together.

A great two-minute segment on Matthews night with Joe Bowen's call over a few of his goals and the call on the fourth in particular is great.

"4 Goals!!! Do you believe this? Holy Mackinaw!!!! The kid is on fire!"

Anderson not good enough tonight.

Exactly! We might as well have had Reimer or Bernier in net last night! Freddy was BRUTAL!

This version of Freddy isn't even worth a 3rd round pick. Nor is he worth much more than a league minimum salary.

If the excuse is injury related, then sit him out to heal, or, send him down for a conditioning stint with the Marlies.

JMHO.
