Disappointing that Matthews' big night couldn't result in a win but really it's hard to say the team deserved it.

didn't deserve it?  I don't know what the corsi looks like but i felt like the leafs spent most of the night in ottawa's end ..outshot them...and in the end only had 5D for most of the night ...i think goaltending let us down

Pretty hard to be disappointed with that game, but I hope Anderson can get back in a groove fairly quickly.

Great game by Marner tonight, and a shame he didn't get on the board. I was also really impressed with Hyman, I thought he played a good game.

Honestly, outside of Marner/Matthews/Nylander the whole team largely sucked tonight. I think this idea some people have of Komarov being the reincarnation of Dino Ciccarelli is going to get exposed a lot tonight. That line looked like Kadri with two fourth liners.

Definitely, Matthews/Marner/Nylander stellar. A lot of others crapped the bed. Babs will sort it out.

This could be the start of the tournaround.  When you start losing games that you probably deserved a better fate in, then at some point you would think fortune would start to turn the other way around.

Brown took a couple of shifts there with Kadri and Komarov late in the game. Wonder if that's a change that makes it to Saturday.

Shanahan and Company have to find another goaltender!  Then, they have to wait till he PROVES himself before handing over a BIG payday to him!

Just so you know, it's a broken clock and not a broken record that's right twice a day.

Nah, Hyman was good and I think the 4th line was just fine in their very limited role.  Gardiner, too, I thought was pretty solid.  The rest of the D had issues.

I'm with you! I think we've seen enough of this guy by now to know he's not going to be any good.

The good news is that I have Karlsson and Stone in my fantasy league.

I've got Karlsson and Matthews. This should get me through week one.

Marner looked great, especially early. Kadri line did not look very good. Hunwick remains bad, but Polak won't be any better. Andersen's bad ones were just getting beat -- which is troubling.

Definitely some good signs for the first game. Obviously the Matthews line, Marner looked good Zaitsev also. Defensively we seemed to be running around at times and with a lot of new faces, young offensive players that's expected. I'm sure Babcock will straighten a lot of that out soon. Goaltending could have been better that was probably the only thing I wasn't impressed with. Albeit as I said earlier I'll give Andersen some slack due to his injury before training camp. Sure once he gets a few games in and in better game shape he'll be better.

wonder how long before matthews is on the first line

He was #1 among forwards in TOI tonight. I get the sense the arbitrary rating of any of these lines as being "First" or "Second" aren't really going to apply this year. The line that is playing the best will play the most on most nights, I'd guess.

5 year contract knowing he allowed 19 goals in his last 4 games with the Ducks. Head scratcher for sure, hopefully he gets it back together and isn't another Raycroft.
