TLDR; the Leafs are better this season.

No they're not! Look at the Islanders in the standings!

Zzzzz.  I schooled you in the other thread about strawman "arguments."

You're gonna have to work on your definition of "schooling" someone.

OK, let me spell it out for you here.  Perhaps this explanation will be useful to others, because as I said in the other thread, it happens all the time.

1)  I didn't throw a tantrum, not anything like one, in pointing out that the Isles are ahead of us in the standings.
2)  You decided that posting a GIF of a tantrum is a devastating and witty takedown.
3)  That, in crudest form, is how strawmen work.  You exaggerate something someone has said, intentionally mischaracterizing it.  What this does is subtly (well, in this case it's anything but) shift the conversation/argument from what was actually said/asserted to a caricature of what was said.  Then, unless the person being attacked just ignores it (usually the best option), the conversation is now on a new plane, with the person being attacked having to  reply to a bogus mischaracterization.  The result is the conversation devolves into a chest-beating contest, as this one has.  It ends up being about egos, not hockey (or whatever).

Resorting to strawmen is dishonest, lazy, and ? believe me ? incredibly boring after you've seen it a thousand times.

Your response in the other thread, OTOH, is valuable.  You expressed honest disagreement.  This kind of thing here is just a waste of everyone's time.

You do have the ability to choose whether or not you respond to my post. Heck, you can ignore it all together.

Instead you've decided to give me lessons in what a strawman argument is, all the while taking the opportunity to call me lazy, boring and dishonest.

Keep up the good work.  ::)

Heck, the lowly Islanders are ahead of us in the standings.  (Their fans must be having a hell of a lot of fun this morning at our expense.)  Anybody laughing at Lou now?

Oh good, someone brought up the Isles again. Seeing as how they're success is almost entirely dependent on two journeymen goalies putting up Vezina-like numbers, yeah I'm still laughing at Lou because I know how funny next season is going to be.

Nothing quite like people waving away the only statistic that counts.

I mean....the Islander are like in the bottom 10th of the league in a lot of categories aren't they? Their special teams aren't very good and they aren't scoring very much at all. Greiss and Lehner have been absolutely spectacular. If those goalies fall back to simply league average (which is fairly likely, given their career norms) I don't see how the Islanders aren't a bottom 5-10 team next year.
