Komisarek for Khabibulin?  Get er done!

That actually makes a lot of sense for both clubs. Except he's out indefinitely with a groin injury. Leafs need someone to step in now.

Nikolai Khabibulin was back on the ice Friday after tweaking his groin early in the week.

The Oilers goaltender is unlikely to play Saturday against the Phoenix Coyotes, but by all indications could be back next week, if he's still around.

Why would the leafs want an almost retired goalie with a wankie groin?  if Burke make a deal for him, I will be the first to call for his head.

I'm going to get flamed here but I don't understand why folks wouldn't move Gardiner in a deal for the right player. Look, I like Gardiner plenty but is he really the next Niedermayer or is he going to be something closer to the next Liles?

I've heard the Liles comparison before. How could he be the next Liles when he's already better than Liles after only 50 games in the league? Niedermayer may be a stretch, but his ceiling looks to be pretty darn high. I'd only move him if it was a major upgrade at some position and there was no other way around it. Like it or not, we may see it happen this week-end.

Yeah, it's early but right now he's already better than Liles, his skating alone sets him apart but I have a feeling that in combination with what's between his ears he's going to be something really special, not sure if it's Scott level but probably top pairing. I'd only trade him for sure fire young treasure, these kinds of players don't come around very often.

As per TSN:  Leafs looking at Oilers Khabibulin as potential netminder.  He has one year left on his contract, is 39, and could provide veteran netminding.

Another option, Nabokov, if Isles decide otherwise.

Kings willing to trade Dustin Brown but demands are high.

Source: TSN Tradecentre

After hearing TSN Trade Center I was hoping Komisarek could be traded for '75 Nabakov and 4th line '89 Matt Martin (7 goals + 7 assists).

I'm not keen because there are probably better options  if not at the deadline then next summer. But, in terms of him not being available due to groin injury, that's quite questionable.

No he is not.

Look at his numbers and keep in mind he's playing behind a defensive system as bad or worse than the Leafs. Oh and he has a Stanley Cup so it's not as if he hasn't faced pressure before.

I have this feeling Burke comes out of left field with a Blockbuster trade.

I'm not as confident about a blockbuster because they're so hard to pull off. But Burke likes to deal so much, I'd be quite surprised if he didn't do something. Hopefully, it's for the longer term good of the club and not much given up if he gets help for this season.

If we lose tonight, I honestly think the playoffs are out of the question; not that there's enough time left, but I mean, if you can't win games like this (and they haven't recently) then you don't deserve a playoff spot.

I'd still welcome a Nash trade, but I'd hate to see us go after a patchwork solution like Khabibulin or give up too much for someone like Brown.

I'm not saying it will happen but if the Leafs could shed Komisareks contract in the process it would be worth it just for the flexibility.

A patchwork in goal is what the Leafs need right now until they can sort out their long term #1 position.  Maybe it's still Reimer but he's not playing like it right now and could use a veteran to help out. With only 1 year left on Khabibulin what's the risk?  Leafs have summer and next season to sort out their long term goalie plan and in the meantime he MAY help us into the playoffs now.

Pretty please?

If they were to take Komisarek, which I sincerely doubt, I'd do it in a heartbeat. It's a 35+ deal that ends after next season. Komi has an additional year left on his deal. Cap savings of $750k.

Why Khabibulin and not pending UFA Nabakov?  I am more expecting that Komisarek would accept a trade to NYI well before Edmonton.

Because the Islanders are trying to re-sign Nabokov, not trade him.

I'd rather have Nabokov but as mentioned Leafs have to wait as Isles try to work out an extension.  If talks break down I assume they'll look to move him. Dangerous waiting game for Burke.
