Nonis using depth to go shopping....

So with all this talk of Brown coming out of LA, I got to thinking, why would they trade a winger, when they need scoring wingers, when their centre ice position looks like Kopitar, Richard, Carter, Stoll.  Anyone think Kopitar moves?

I could be wrong but I think LA will opt to have Carter on the wing... at least for now, thus making a winger (potentially) available.

Sure.  Reimer + Armstrong for Schneider ;)

I've said it before but if they need space for wiggle room in a trade or something why not just waive Penner and keep their captain, unless he's at odds with Sutter or something I just don't get it.

He hasn't worked out in T.O., might be the best thing for both parties at this point.

Why Khabibulin and not pending UFA Nabakov?  I am more expecting that Komisarek would accept a trade to NYI well before Edmonton.

Because the Islanders are trying to re-sign Nabokov, not trade him.

Also, the Islanders aren't out of the playoff race.  Certainly not enough to hand their goaltender to a team that is 5 points up on them.

It pains me to say it but that's so true.

Eric Francis via twitter: Source told Francis this morning that the Maple Leafs could be sellers if they don?t play well tonight.

Eric Francis via twitter: The Leafs have been offered a 1st round pick for Mikhail Grabovski.

Spector?s Hockey via twitter: Glenn Healy thinks the Maple Leafs should pursue Andres Lindback or Evgeni Nabokov.

Daren Millard via twitter: The Kings, Canucks and Sharks may have interest in Maple Leafs Colby Armstrong.

Eric Francis via twitter: The Leafs haven?t ruled out re-signing Jonas Gustavsson this summer.

Eric Francis via twitter: The Leafs talked to the Oilers about Nikolai Khabibulin, but it was a short conversation. They don?t have an interest in Tomas Vokoun.

anyone know much about Anders Lindback?

He performed well in his first season, when he was healthy of course. But yeah, he clearly hasn't been able to get things going this year. Injuries could be a valid excuse of course, but at this point I would be looking to trade him.

His name was brought up in comparison to Boyce earlier and while Boyce may have performed better in a 4th line role than Armstrong, I don't think there's any doubt that Colby is still the more valuable player in terms of what each player is capable of doing.

Is Rinne's backup, and has been compared in style to Rinne - he's a big guy, 6'6", but is probably a poor man's Rinne (although who knows, Rinne was a late bloomer no?).  Had pretty good stats in a backup role last season, although they haven't been so good this season (.897 SV%).  Hockeysfuture gave him a 6.5B if that means anything.

Army could be great in the playoffs...
Leafs are 3 points out of the dance and 5 ahead of a lotery pick... Hard to call this one...

Wilson is using the trading deadline as an excuse for some of the performance...hmm ::)

I think its an easy call. Swing for the fences and make a coaching change.

At this point I don't know how much difference that would make, I'd let them sink or swim this year as they are ( well after some selling if possible ), see where the chips fall and pull the trigger after the last game of the year if necessary.

Agree with Tigger. Who would they get if they dumped Wilson now? Would it put them into the playoffs?

To answer your questions in order 1) It doesn't matter and 2) Who knows?

But at this point if you're inclined to fire Wilson if the team doesn't make the playoffs then what's the harm that could be done by a coaching change? I mean, if you fire Wilson and replace him with anyone then best case scenario is that the shake-up sends enough of a wake-up call to players that they improve, regardless of any change in strategy and worst case scenario is...what? That they start playing like crap? That particular Rubicon has already been crossed.

That's fair but I think you'd have to be in the room to really tip the point of decision. Personally, if it doesn't matter and is unknowable at this point I'm inclined to let him play it out and fall on his sword.
