What a frustrating season.  Even with all the turmoil, you look back 1 week, had the Leafs beaten Washington last Sunday, we'd be only 2 points out of the playoffs right now.

I know, right? I also don't expect the team to throw games so it's frustrating that they went on a tear. A couple of guys should've been shipped off for a couple of first rounders.

I mean it's frustrating that we tanked so hard.  Just plain mediocrity and the Leafs would be in right now.  A few wins here and there is the difference, but the 15 losses in 17 games...*sigh*

That they still got a remote chance this late in the season after dropping 15 in 17 really shows how much the East has imploded this year (and they still couldn't make the play offs).

Yeah, I can't see the Leafs winning the next 10 straight to end the season on a 12-0 run.  I guess it's possible, but not probable.

It's not gonna happen I agree. This team didn't win 5 straight all season.

Current odds.
At 10-0-0 -->81.5%
At 09-0-1 -->62.9%
At 09-1-0 -->42.8%
At 08-0-2 -->40.8%
At 08-1-1 -->23.4%
At 07-0-3 -->21.4%

They could easily not lose another game all season and not make the playoffs.

For the perpetual optimists, here are updated odds of the Leafs making the playoffs after the Caps and the Jets both lost last night.

W L OT Probabilty

10 0 0 90
9 0 1 77
9 1 0 59
8 0 2 57
8 1 1 37.9
7 0 3 35.5
8 2 0 20.6
7 1 2 18.5
6 0 4 16.5

Here we go again!

Wins tonight and tomorrow for the Leafs coupled with a Caps loss tonight and they could be two points out. :o

But let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

I am still convinced that the Leafs will draft 8-12th.

Given how we always seem to take it on the chin as Leafs fans, I could see the Leafs going 11-0 (i.e. win the next 9 games) and then be in a position to make the playoffs if they won the last game of the season against Montreal, and then losing.

I know that scenario is supposed to be depressing but when I read it I actually smiled for 2 reasons:1.It is most likely what would happen and 2 that a Leaf fan would actually conceive such a diabolical ending to the Leafs season.

Just par for the course as a Leafs fan.  I've had my heart broken every single season for over 35 years now.  ;)

No, it's more akin to "I sucked in life in order to get first dibs at the brick lottery but then failed in my attempt to build a house anyways."

And you don't need bricks to build a house.

Pedantry aside, it's an argument that assumes that people who advocate the necessity of high draft picks are saying that getting those high draft picks is the first, last and only step in building a competitive club which is on it's face a complete and utter strawman.

It's just one the Leafs have never tried.....

One of the panel members on Saturday's After 40 minutes suggested Edmonton might trade down in the draft? That's two rumors floating out there now between Columbus and the Oilers.

I'm more inclined to believe Edmonton might trade down than believe Columbus would, but I don't believe either of them will trade their way out of the top 5.

I think we can all agree that being mediocre serves no purpose at all. Either be great or be awful.

I'm still optimistic that if the Leafs can lose the next 2 games then they still have an excellent chance at a lottery pick!!

I just read an article where Craig Button suggests they should trade down to get Dumba, but then, it's Craig Button.

THat still doesn't likely take them out of the top 5. He was ranked 6th in the most recent ISS rankings, but, there were 2 other defencemen ahead of him, which I'm sure the Oilers would like just as much.
