R1G4: Bruins @ Leafs - May 8th, 7:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

I appreciate a good Phaneuf pig-pile as much as the next guy but all of OT, the game really, wasn't that one play. The Leafs had a ton of chances to both put the game away and win in OT and the reality is that while they had the jump to carry the play they didn't really have the execution to get it done.

Grabo and Kessel in particular, while you have to admire their speed/grit/whatever, created a bunch of chances and then did nothing with them.

I only started watching from the beginning of the third, but I had no idea that Orr played that game until I checked the box score. I just assumed Randy scratched him for MacArthur.

Two shifts in the second. None in the third. None in overtime. Did he get hurt or did Carlyle just show why he absolutely shouldn't be playing in the playoffs?

O'Byrne backs right into Reimer when he could of forced krechi to shoot from further out.
We need a big mobile dman who can take minutes away from Phaneuf.

I don't blame O'Byrne too much for that, and I know that the Leafs were down to 5 defenceman, but whose idea was it to put our two weakest defencemen (left) in the series on the ice at the same time in overtime?

Ouch, that hurts.

He took a lousy penalty in the second and that was the last he saw of the ice. So...yeah, why he shouldn't have been playing.

This one really hurt.  I honestly thought the Leafs might pull it off.  That's cool though Dion.

Phaneuf has to go. I keep trying to give him the benefit of the doubt but I have no more doubt, he has to go. It's too bad and not really all his fault, the way he was paraded into Toronto was entirely unfair to him. He needs a fresh start somewhere else.

He took a questionable penalty in the 2nd. I don't think he saw the ice after that.

Id rather stop blaming phaneuf and start asking kessel why he was constantly flying down the wing and taking low percentage shots like it was nhl 2002..

Yeah that goal in OT was totally Kessel's fault.

Which to me perfectly highlights why I think a team is better off carrying 7 defenseman in the lineup than this.  That way Dion doesn't get tired and crap the bed all game like he does when he plays a bunch of minutes.

But Nik is right, the Leafs had a lot of chances to win the game and couldn't finish around the net/translate space into high quality scoring chances.
