Though the father in law(habs fan) had a good chuckle........on Saturday afternoon that is...Changed his tune come Sunday.

Yet another difference between Randy Carlyle and Ron Wilson. Carlyle on bench for warmups. Wilson never came out of his office

Didn't know Wilson did that...

My eyes just glaze over at jokes about the Leafs Stanley Cup drought now.

Listen, coaches have different styles, and the media never liked Wilson much.

Just to remind everyone, Carlyle was coaching last spring too...when they finished 5th last in the league.  His record was 6 and 9.

Let's just temper this media love-in for Carlyle a bit here.

He is better then Wilson in his media interactions.  I hope he will have a better record on the ice.

I feel the same way about Nonis and Burke.

I won't lie the aggressive nature of both (Burke and Wilson) was appealing to me at first, probably because the media is mostly dumb and so its funny to see them snarked at, but it gets ugly and tiresome quickly when the results on the ice aren't there.

I would concur. The press ask a lot of questions that are either entirely stupid or so obvious. It's like they know the quotes they want and try to lead them...or they simply have their own opinions and intend to write whatever they want anyway...

Glaze over or well up with tears?

I also enjoyed it at the end when people were chanting fire wilson at the ACC.  That sort of thing could not have happen to a more cantankerous old man.

Through four games, the native of London, Ont., is the club's scoring leader with five points (three goals, two assists).

And he says he owes it all to Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle.

"Before I didn't really get the impression that I was kind of wanted in the lineup or I really deserved the minutes that I may have gotten," Kadri said following Friday's practice. "With Randy it's a whole different ballgame.

"He makes me feel like I belong here and I can be a big contributor here and I feel like that as well. As a young guy I just needed others to believe in me as well."
...
Kadri said communication with his head coach is a big reason for his early success.

"He (Carlyle) explains everything he does, even if you don't get the minutes you want there's an explanation for it, a reason for it," Kadri said. "And he'll come tell you personally, it's not beating around the bush sending someone else to come preach.

"I just like the communication."

By extension, a bit of a shot at Ron Wilson. Kadri isn't the first Leaf to compliment Carlyle on his communications with the players.

A well deserved shot at Wilson.  Ron only has himself to blame for his unique way of getting the worse out of players instead of the best.  I not only think that his handling of Kadri was bad, remember how he treated Ian White.  That guy was a healthly scratch/playing forward for the start of two seasons despite being one of the most talented dmen we had.  Was there any player that played better under wilson?  The closest one I can think of is Kessel or Lupul; but I think that is just Kessel naturally growing as a player and Lupul becoming healthy and being given ice time.

Grabovski progressed pretty well under Wilson.

So did Kessel in many ways, Gunarsson, Kulemin, MacArthur rediscovered his career, etc.

Coaches will always do well with some players but not others. I'm sure Carlyle in time will have players who he isn't connecting with. In Anaheim he was known to not see eye to eye with many.. including Lupul.

Glad for Kadri that it's working.  We needed this to work.

Still, were only 4 games in and he talked about it after what 2? Kadri has always had a problem with speaking far too soon IMO. If he has one good night he talks like every night will be a good one and comes off like he doesn't have work to do on his game, like he did that in the AHL and yes done.

So should we fire Carlyle and bring back Wilson?  I'm so confused.

Maybe Wilson being so tough on Kadri helped him get to this point.

IIRC, wasn't there a report about someone overhearing Burke blasting Kadri behind closed doors a couple years ago? It sure seemed like that was the route they were taking at the time, tough love yadda yadda. They don't miss much with the sports psychologists  employed these days.
