Randy Carlyle/Leaf Coach thread

I noticed Carlyle put Kessel out with Kadri for a bit last night which was interesting.  It was only a matter of time.  They looked dominant to me as well; I was surprised he didn't keep them out there longer.

Lupul/ Kadri/ Kessel could be very interesting...

He did it again tonight and they scored.

Just wondering, who would you guys prefer on Kessel's opposite wing: Lupul or JVR?

I guess its which ever one plays best on the second line.  Kadri/Kessel/anyone will be productive, so I don't think its who works best with kessel.  On a similar note, notice how James Neal is excelling in pitts.  Do you think it has anything to do with playing with malkin or crosby as centers?  Sundin made Hogland look good too.

I am hoping Carlyle sits Holzer or Nonis sends him to the Marlies. I believe he can be a very solid stay-at-home type, but he still needs some time. Liles was not that bad.
I am still willing to give Komi a shot and sit Kostka for a few games. If Komi sucks bring back Kostka again or how about giving a look at Gardiner.

I'm happy with Holzer's play overall, but Gardiner is a game changer. If it's the only option I figure the Leafs will send Holzer down to make room.

Lupul.

The reason I asked is that I've wondered where Lupul fits in the lineup when he returns.

Does he bump JVR off the top line or do they try him on the Grabovski or Kadri lines

I don't think Lupul goes on Kadri's line.  It's like Carlyle is trying to keep Kadri's line a secret weapon.  Let teams focus on Kessel, use Grabs line to shut down, a low and behold, scored a goal with Kadri's line.  So far it's working.

Secret and along the lines of a weapon of mass destruction!!

I'm hoping Lupul goes back to the top line and JVR goes to Grabbo's line. They looked good together early in the year before Lupul went down and JVR moved up. JVR is defensively responsible enough to not hinder that line very much but would give the offensive punch Grabbo needs to get going more.

Keep the Kadri line intact for the time being.

I think you get 3 balanced lines that way.

Yup, speculation.

Like a certain team wanting to reunite Gardner with his college mate and has been floating the idea of a nuge in return?

I must say this would be very, very tasty if true.  RNH and Jadri as your 1 - 2 centres with a pretty decent set of wingers could be dynamite, though perhaps a bit undersized, for the next 12 years.

I personally think RNH is a tad bit overrated, and Gardiner perhaps a bit underrated. But it's an interesting idea nonetheless.

Edit: I think we need to see a lot more of Gardiner before we really know what we have. He could be the exact piece we need on the back end to improve the mobility of the defence.

This is exactly what I think happens. Carlyle won't be breaking up the MacArthur-Kadri pairing and he has to give Frattin some more time to rediscover the chemistry that he had with Kadri earlier in the season. Lupul and JVR will slot into LW1 and LW2 in some way, and I think JVR being the better defensive player than Lupul means he's likely going to go with Grabovski.

I think the biggest question is will Carlyle sit one of McLaren and Orr instead of Komarov. It should be a no-brainer but with Randy I really don't know.

I thought Steckel would be the one going back to the press box once Frattin returned.

He has. I was talking about when Lupul returns.

It still boggles my mind how these two still get more ice time than Grabovski etc on some nights. The D like Holzer and Kostka too. Game after game the same lineup. Soon Liles and Komisarek will be so rusty you might as well sit them out the rest of the year.
