Round 1: Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Montreal Canadiens

So if Bogosian is good to go in Game 1 it's still Bogosian-Sandin right?
Yup it would be because Sandin is on PP1. If Bogo is going game 1 we'll see him and Sandin together at practice today and tomorrow.

Well they definitely aren't having Sandin practice on PP1 and on the top 6-on-5 unit for next season.

Yeah but we aren't privy to the no-cameras practice when Martin Marincin takes over the top PP duties.

The Habs might be getting fans for a potential game 6, but that's no match for OUR X-factor.

It's gonna be such a kick to the gut for all the fans who get tickets and have been dying the see the team play live for over a year now. I love it.

I understand that we only want positive thoughts here but I think that we need to at least acknowledge that Carey Price is a goalie that can win a series on his own.

This series could be a lot tougher for the Leafs than it is being made out to be.

I'm fairly confident heading into the series but I mean yeah if we get goalie'd then we get goalie'd.

But I mean Price is bound to have a bad playoffs eventually... right?

It's on the players to push this stuff out of their heads but I always hate when there is hype around one team going into a series because I think it is easy for the team that is being hyped to take their foot off the gas, and it's easier for the team that is being dismissed to want to prove people wrong.

The Leafs should have plenty of motivation going in to this series to put the playoff demons to bed, but even there that's a cause for concern because if something goes wrong it could lead to a whole "Here we go again" unraveling.

The Leafs are a good team that have a good chance at winning this series but they are going to have to work for it.

He's only won 4 best of 7 series in his career, 2 of which were in the same season.

Also, like, he's been bad 3 out of the last 4 seasons. Carey Price the player is not as good as Carey Price's reputation.

I have a lot of faith that the lessons learned from last year and all the veteran additions (Thornton, Simmonds, Bogosian, Brodie, Foligno, Nash) have made this team way, way better prepared to handle some adversity in the playoffs. But you're of course right, none of it matters if they don't pick up the W's.

You're the boss, coach!

Obviously if you take away a goalies best stretch of play that is going to impact their numbers but man has a guy ever benefitted from having two absurdly good seasons.

2013-to the abbreviated 2015:

137 GP 88-38-11 2.12 GAA .931 SV%

Since that time:

260 GP 127-102-29 2.62 GAA .912 SV%

Price can still have big moments but he hasn't been this world beating goalie for almost 7 years.

His last 4 seasons are even less impressive:

90-82-24, 2.75 GAA, .909 Sv%. -7.9 GSAA (Goals Save Above Average) - and that includes an excellent season in 18/19. Take out that season, and his numbers are: 55-58-18, 2.88, .904, -23.1

Obviously, some of that is on the team in front of him, but, he's not the Vezina calibre goalie he once was. Age and injuries are catching up with him. He could go on a run of excellent play, sure, but recent history suggests that, even if he does, it won't be good enough in a best-of-7.

EDIT: There has also been research done that shows the quality of a player's performance over the previous 3 seasons is the best predictor of their current potential, with the most recent season weighing much more heavily than the previous two. By that measure, Price is very average.

Jim Hughson disagrees.

Just once I'd like the Leafs to be on the dishing end of that, not the taking end.

May I present to you cujo and potvin?

I remember the series against the blackhawks, potvin stole that series. There were 2 or 3 1-0 games.

That was last century and my braindrive erased the backups.  :)
