Swedish defencemen Ros?n & Borgman signed to ELCs

https://theathletic.com/60931/2017/05/18/mirtle-why-the-maple-leafs-are-loading-up-on-swedish-prospects/

Mirtle adds his thoughts on the new signings and theories about the recent surge of Swedish prospects. His articles are normally unlocked (for longer) so you can read it before griping about people making a living.

Apparently there were a lot of suitors for both Rosen (NHL skating, NHL shot) and Borgman (two-way play, physical, compact tank).

Not this one.  I'm with Marie-A: let Myrtle eat cake.

I'd imagine Holm isn't signing or they'd probably have announced together.

Looking into this a bit further, Holm got tapped to sub in for OEL at the World Championship, which would delay any signing he might have lined up.

Rosen was cut from the roster when another round of NHLers came up after the pre-tournament.

Nice these young Swedish D are choosing the Leafs when they are sought after by many clubs. When you think back to the signing of Salming and to a lesser degree Hammerstrom back in the 70's the club sowed seeds for the future. Salming (my favorite along with Keon) is a hockey god in Sweden and of course he played for who? (or whom?).  Nice that some unknown forsight 40 years ago is paying dividends now.
Wouldnt it be nice to find out that Holm is going to join them.
I like the look of Borgmans face, looks like a bulldog ready to rip someone apart

There's a lot of compelling factors to choosing Toronto:
- Salming to Sundin
- Toronto climate, both meteorological and cultural, are pretty similar to Sweden
- Toronto has a boatload of fellow Swedes in the system (esp. the Marlies)
- Our coach worked with one of the greatest Swedish players to ever play the game, upon which many model their games (Lidstrom)
- the type of game the Leafs play lines up with the way these two playstyles: slick skating from the backend, distribution to high octane forwards
- they saw the highlights of Matthews, Nylander, Marner embarassing defenders and thought, I'd better be on the other side of that
- they saw Zaitsev's deal

As for Borgman: I found this link on reddit.

And so what of this Sandberg character?

Swedish winger Filip Sandberg is headed to the NHL, according to his 2015-16 club, HV71. HV71 made an announcement similar to their release on Tuesday which said defenceman Andreas Borgman had signed in the NHL but didn?t announce where. Borgman was later revealed to have joined the Toronto Maple Leafs on a two-year contract. Sandberg scored eight goals and added 17 assists in 52 games during the regular season. He added six goals and eight assists in 16 playoff games as HV71 won the league?s championship.

Of all the hockey I've seen round the world in various countries, Sweden is probably the most technically skilled I've seen. Very clever to be picking up the better prospective players out of this league. I think they probably have the best chance to adapt to the NHL game quickest.

A little known fact is that table  (rod) hockey is a craze in Sweden and most of the champions at table hockey are Swedish!

So there are places where the people are better educated but fatter?

Same amount as Zaitsev's initial deal, but 2 years.
