Tank Nation: Matthews Edition

I'm sorry but who the heck picks Aaron Ekblad 3rd?  A top defensemen playing on one of the best teams in the league when he is 20.  Absolutely crazy.

I think intelligent executives surround themselves with other intelligent hockey people. It seems like he created an echo chamber there. The trade negotiation segment didn't look good on him either. The financial mismanagement that led to them having to trade key players away.

Which is a pretty stark contrast to how things have supposedly worked with the Leafs since Shanahan cleaned house. There were some reportedly heated arguments over some transactions/decisions leading up to the draft.
Really? I'd love to hear an example!

I read his thoughts on the 2015 draft and it gave ma  feel for how he views players and drafting philosophies.

Having one guy re-draft the past is obviously going to ruffle some feathers.

jonassiegel: Joffrey Lupul having sports hernia surgery, per the Leafs, and is done for the year. Leafs also confirm JVR won't play again this season.

Somewhere, Gary Bettman's head is exploding.

Just wondering, Ladd has 17 G, 17 A and is an UFA, Chigago payed basiclly 2 1st rounders for him.

Could P.A. Parenteau, 16G, 16A,  land the Leafs at Least another 1st or a Top Prospect and a 2nd ?

I've given up the dream of outtanking the Oilers.  After Edmonton loses again tonight the Leafs will have 4 games in hand on them.  Absolutely no way they finish in 30th.  I can only hope that Bettman fixes the lottery so that the Oilers don't win it.  I don't even care at this point if the Leafs win the lottery, I just don't want the Oilers to win it again.

Honestly at this point I'm worried about our position even in the bottom-3. Buffalo, Calgary, Winnipeg, and Columbus are all pretty close to us in points-percentage. Winnipeg especially scares me. They've lost Ladd and Little, and they're starting Pavelec regularly over 2 superior goalies now that he's healthy again. Granted it's not like we're piling up the points or anything, but even a slight uptick and we'll be in danger.

But McDavid though... and Eberle, and N-H, and Yakupov, and Draisaitl... the Leafs have... Kardri?

Hopefully the Oilers flip one for a good d-man and play decent hockey down the stretch. I also think McDavid will pick it up down the stretch.

Yeah. This is getting too frustrating to follow. There is too much pride in the Leafs dressing room to beleive they will overtake Edmonton in the race to the bottom. I mean, we still have the trade deadline to hope for some help, but wirh Babcock guiding the ship, it's not going to completely sink no matter who gets moved out next week.

They must have a week off at some point or something?  Every time the Leafs play I think "okay maybe tonight is when they'll play one of the games in hand" but nope, Oilers always play too.

Maybe the league secretly sneaked 4 extra games into their schedule to boost up their point totals and keep them out of the basement? Because they have 15 games in March, literally one every other day.

Hasn't worked of course.

Probably not. Whether it's valid or not, Ladd is seen as the type of guy you want/need in your top 6 if you want to really succeed in the playoffs, whereas Parenteau is more of a complimentary piece that's nice to have.

Realistically, we're looking at a 2nd and a B prospect/mid-round pick type return.
