Bourque is Metis...half native/half french and speaks french fluently

From Bourque himself:

?I might be in trouble too, I don?t speak French and probably have the most French name on that team,? Bourque joked. ?I know a few words, but that?s just from school.?

Well there you go!

Hold on. So if the best I can do is a few words half-remembered from Grade 9 I should stop telling people I'm fluent?

Ah, well. I'll always be useful if I need to tell someone there's a frog in the library at least.

Just goes to show you can't believe everything you read.

Just because I can't stand Eric Francis.  This is 9 minutes or so before the trade was confirmed:

Strike Iggy, JBO, Kipper and all the other Flames off the li st of possible trade candidates w Montreal. Sorry, Cammy aint coming back.

Seems a bit of a wash deal to me... Though I wonder if Cammalleri sooner rather than later replaces Iginla as the team's top right winger... Could he finally be moved?

I'm laughing my head off. Seems like Gauthier was all upset with Cammalleri's comments and traded him to the first team to ask. Surely he could have let GMs know he was available to try and get a better package.

Realistically how much better were they going to be able to do? Cammalleri is almost 30, has seen his production decline the last three years(and hasn't managed to play in 70 games in those seasons) and is owed 14 million dollars in the next two seasons(6 million cap hit).

The trade deadline does weird things to teams that are in contention, especially when you point out the "playoff pedigree" of Cammalleri for the Habs.  Sure he's had a poor year, but everyone remembers how he stepped it up in their playoff series.  I have no doubt they could have gotten a better offer.  There's already at least one GM (according to Pierre Labrun) who said he would have made an offer had he known Cammalleri was available.

Pierre 'Knee Jerk' Gauthier

No no no, they claim the trade was in the works "for weeks", it was just a coincidence he was traded the day after ripping the team!  :D :D

..for a guy with a french name. It's like Gauthier's playing a game of NHL GM Survivor with these calculated 'save my ass' moves.

He should have called up Bourque first, he has a french name but he can't speak french.

I would have figured they could do better than basically a bigger version of Cammalleri who's slighty older and doesn't have the recent playoff performances.  But then again, maybe the cap space was enough to swing it back in favour of the deal.  It's not a deal that strikes me as particularly great or bad for either team.

Knee jerk trades are never good.  Despite was Gauthier claims about the deal being in the works for weeks, it's very suspicious it suddenly happens the day after Cammalleri rips the team.  If he knew they were close on a deal why dress him last night?  Surely he would have had some indication.  Gauthier should have stepped back, quietly let other GMs know that Cammalleri was available and see what kind of offers he could get.  Maybe he does no better, but I think it's his obligation as GM of the Habs to try.

I would keep an eye on Patrick Holland in this trade.  The parts that moved are going unnoticed but he's a decent looking prospect who has put up steadily better numbers each year in junior.  he is a plus 23 this year already with Tri City.

I think Cammalleri and Bourque are somewhat a wash although seem to be very different personalities. I don't see Bourque helping much with the Habs motivational problems.

Roy will be installed as new GM the morning of the trade deadline.  You heard it here first.

Most reports I've read have him pegged as topping out as a 4th liner and most likely being AHL depth. He's 3rd on his team in points, which does point to the very real possibility that his numbers are a more of a result of playing with 2 very productive linemates rather than having created a lot of offence on his own.

I wanna see him as coach.  The blowups during games would be epic.
