Leafs haven't been asked by Habs to speak to Rick Dudley. But, expect Dudley and Marty Lapointe to be among Bergevin's early hires
It'll be a shame to lose Dudley.
Isn't Dudley already an assisted GM? Why would he leave the Leafs for the same position with the Habs?
He's one of several here, but would be THE assistant there? Also, the Chicago connection I would assume is probably stronger than the Burke one.
I don't see that not being a lateral no matter how many Assistant GM's Burke has here. I don't think he would let the guy go for a lateral move to a team in the same division, unless he doesn't want him around anymore. Plus, with the Habs drafting 2 spots ahead of the Leafs, there is going to be a lot of information switching tables at the last minute.
I hope Dudley stays. Having him around for this draft pick is important, IMO.
Given that he hasn't gone yet AND the Habs haven't asked for him yet, I would assume it might be a case that they would wait until July 1st or something like that to let him go free?
For the record, I hope he stays too, but the hockey fraternity also seems to like to keep their colleagues happy, and Burke might view this as more of a veteran guy going to help mentor an inexperienced peer
(and in some ways also creating a receptive ear for trade discussions).
