The Habs Thread - Reloaded

Hey, he speaks French and has a ring as a Head Coach.  :-\ Waddell probably didn't help him not suck in Atlanta either. - Or maybe I have the timeline wrong.

I used to hate Hartley, he just seems like a loud mouth a**hole...I was hoping for Crawford.

I still do. I found him to be the same way too and hey, being the Habs new coach? - All the more reason to hate him  :D but from your perspective, maybe age mellowed him a bit - who knows.

Just being out of the spotlight for a few years has calmed my dislike for him, that's all.  I'm sure he's the same old jerk.  He's the type of coach I would absolutely detest playing for.  He has this unapologetic arrogance that I can't stand.

Hey, our last guy solidified his reputation to that regard on twitter! If Hartley can stay away from social media, you'll be further ahead than we were.  ;)

From:

It is also expected that Eric Veilleux, the head coach of the Cataractes, will follow him to Montreal to become his assistant coach.

Former Thrasher and St. Louis assistant coach is joining the Hartley team, but on a different level...

UPDATE: Mellanby has been named director of player personnel according to Renaud Lavoie of RDS.

Anybody remember those dirty tilts with Atlanta (Leafs) back in the day when Boulton and Exelby played for Hartley?

I remember reading an article back then where Boulton telegraphed that he wasn't pleased by some of the things that Hartley asked him to do.

I wouldn't call this a done-deal. The original source is pretty much just a blog. Not sure how much credibility that guy has.

Definitely not a done-deal:

According to RDS hockey analyst Vincent Damphousse, Bob Hartley had a second interview with Flames management for the vacant coaching job in Calgary.

Hartley going to Calgary. Sounds like it's down to Michel Therrien or Marc Crawford.

Why would they, or anyone for that matter, consider Therrien again?  He's about the only guy worse than Hartley, plus we've been there, done that.

Not to mention Pittsburgh won the cup the year they canned him.

He did come within 2 wins of the Cup, though.

I think a rock could have coached that team about as far.  Bylsma did a great job when he replaced him (I think he's a great coach) but really, a puppet would have been more effective than Therrien.

Then how is Bylsma a great coach for getting 2 more wins out of them in the Finals, when a rock could have coached that team, but Therrien is worse than a puppet?

Whoa, easy there...I just wanted to be clear that I wasn't equating Bylsma to a rock or a puppet because I really like him.  Probably my favourite coach in the league.  I'm not going to start having to use emoticons again am I?

I know.  I was asking why you think Bylsma is a great coach for coaching a great team to a Cup win, but when Therrien comes within 2 wins he's not a good coach and instead is coaching a team that a rock could win with.

If it was all a joke I'm sorry.

Scott Mellanby, the Habs new director of player personnel...

Mellanby will oversee players on the NHL club, in the minor league system and prospects in junior leagues and in Europe. He will be part of the group making decisions on trades, free agents and other acquisitions.

"Scott has an impressive background and a commanding knowledge of the league, having played for 21 seasons in the NHL before holding various management positions over the last four years," Bergevin said in a statement. "Scott is known for his character and his leadership, which made him a great team captain during six seasons with the Florida Panthers and the Atlanta Thrashers.
"He has extensive knowledge of the game, is well respected in the hockey circles and will become an important asset for our organization."

Mellanby said that when his friend and former teammate Bergevin asked St. Louis GM Doug Armstrong for permission to talk, he jumped at the chance.

"What's not intriguing?" Mellanby said. "It's the Montreal Canadiens, the greatest franchise in our sport.

"Plus I always thought about working with Marc. My contract was expiring and I wasn't thrilled about coaching. It all came together."
