Thanks gents. I don't understand it, I always drink plenty of malk. Yup, good thing hockey is on. Prepare for many, many inane gdt comments.

The UK parliament held an emergency session of parliament to discuss putting ground troops in Syria and imposing a no-fly zone. They've compared Russia to the Third Reich and Fascist Italy.

Who ordered thermo-nuclear war?

It figures the Leafs finally have something nice happen and here we stand on the brink of a third World War.

Without wanting to get too deep into the specific courses of action available, there really was only so long that situation could go on without something happening. Having Western countries agonize over policies about taking in a miniscule number of the refugees without a coherent plan to deal with the situation creating all of the refugees was eerily reminiscent of past errors in Sudan and Rwanda.

Yeah, I absolutely hear you, it's just worrying.

Putin does not seem like the type to exercise restraint when someone sticks their chin out and offers him the first punch though, at least it'll be quick I suppose.

He doesn't, but he's also not stupid (at least, I don't think he is). I imagine the play here for him is to use Syria as a negotiating piece in regards to the Ukraine/Crimea situation. Not sure how much that'll get him, but, leveraging this situation to improve one closer to home seems like the smartest move for him.

That would be the logical progression, but I don't see him obeying a no-fly zone when his jets have been controlling the region.

If he kills British ground troops or RAF fighters, there is no walking things back any longer.

The British parliament compared him to Mussolini and Hitler, they are getting ready for war.

I struggle to see how they get back to the negotiating table as soon as Britain and by extension Nato declare war, that's indirectly what they are proposing.

A real Cold War 2.0

Oh, he'll definitely won't like the no fly zone, but I don't think he's stupid enough to actually attack any British forces. I think it's more that he'll agree to back off in his support of Assad (without the no-fly zone, though - more like a "okay, we'll step back and let things play out however they play out" type position) in favour of gains in Crimea. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if that was his intention all along.

With all of these superpower geopolitics on the boil along with the distraction of the halloween trumpkin, it seems like this would be the perfect time for us to peacefully annex Alaska.

By the time anyone notices, we could establish an NHL franchise there, and effectively just claim squatters rights.

Stupid traffic. I moved house about a year ago and had gotten used to my drive to work now taking around 50 minutes. But this year now it's averaging over an hour.

This morning was 1 hour 31 minutes.

Oh and my commute is 19 miles.

That's awful. There's just no way I could ever do that. At my old job it was 16-17 minutes and I hated it. I live a 5 minute drive from my office now and it's great.

UGH.  Jealous.  My commute is a bit less than Arn's (28 km), and 35-40 mins is the usual which isn't all together that bad for Toronto.  But as much as I may have gotten used to it, I still hate it.

It's slowly killing me. And cos I live in a sort of rural village the nearest train station is about 20 minutes away from my house (by car) then my office is another 20+ minute walk from the station after a 40 minute train journey.

And costs a fortune.

Buy a Tesla and sleep while it drives...what could go wrong?

The irony is I work for a renewable energy consultancy company and I drive a car for 2+ hours a day choking up motorways to get to and from the office  ;D

You know what's not fun? Finding out you have cancer when you're in your early thirties. You know what's worse? While undergoing treatment finding out your wife is cheating on you and has been for some time.

And the real kicker? She claims she's moving an hour away and intends to try and take your only child with her.
