New coach, new player, new attitude, new style of play equals the TFC being on a winning roll, as the FC defeated the Colorado Rapids at home, by a 2-1 margin. Newly-acquired Andrew Weideman (from the Juan de Guzman trade) scored the decisive goal in the victory.

Toronto FC's newest player became an instant hero to the BMO Field faithful Wednesday night, scoring the decisive goal in the Reds' come-from-behind 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids before 18,225 fans.

Colorado took the lead in the 23rd minute, but Ryan Johnson levelled the score just after halftime and Wiedeman netted the winner in the 67th minute shortly after entering the game as a substitute.

It was only Wiedeman?s second appearance for the Reds (his first at home) after arriving in Toronto last week as part of the Julian de Guzman trade. The goal was the young forward?s first in Major League Soccer.

Wiedeman carried out the simple instructions of coach Paul Mariner with impeccable precision.

"He told me ?go in, work hard on defence, bring some energy and get a game winner?," Wiedeman told reporters after the game.

....there's no denying the Reds have responded to Mariner's simplified tactics and demonstrative management style.

TFC lost its first contest under Mariner but has since gone 4-2-4 under the Englishman.

What?s been the key to the mini turnaround? Wiedeman...seemed to speak for all of his new teammates when he credited Mariner and his personal approach in demanding his players to constantly compete at a high level.

The Reds were dealt a major blow on Monday when leading scorer Danny Koevermans was ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

With defenders Adrian Cann and Jeremy Hall still out injured, TFC's depth is mighty thin...

Just want to give a well deserved thank you to Rogers and Organizers of the Liverpool-TFC match. Announcing the day of the game that Liverpool's top players not only wouldn't be playing, but didn't even make the trip, was just a fresh of breath air. And that they announced it the day of, by the time the majority of the tickets were sold, was just brilliant. Don't worry about the fact that you originally said those players would be in Toronto. Just keep making money and ripping your customers off; it's what Canadian business is all about.

How is it that Toronto soccer fans could be so ripped off...

...guess Rogers is in practice mode since they now part own the Leafs too, and we all know what we long-suffering Leaf fans have had to put up with...

Not that I'm a big defender of TFC, but the blame lies with the organizers of the World Football Challenge. TFC announced the Liverpool roster that they had been given by the WFC. Those players didn't make the Toronto game because UEFA rules require a certain period before players have to join their clubs after the EURO championships. Someone at Liverpool or the WFC should have realized that when they sent the initial roster over.

Toronto have signed Darren O'Dea.

He came through the Celtic youth system and is an Irish international, he was seen as surplus to requirements for Celtic so they let him leave for free instead of excising an option they had for another year.

The lad can play and I'm sure he's probably better than what you have at centre-half.

All the other touring teams in the WFC have sent their main squads for the most part - with respect I'm not sure how good of an argument that is. IIRC this happened before with TFC and Man U. Didn't they double the ticket prices for the Liverpool / TFC match also? The whole flap is inexcusable - has TFC done anything to make it right to the fans who they fleeced or just count the $?

Several star players were ruled out of the game by Liverpool when the club arrived in Toronto late Friday afternoon. England captain Steven Gerrard, Glen Johnson, Pepe Reina, Andy Carroll, the man with the ?35-million ($55.4-million) contract, and recently signed Italian striker Fabio Borini are not eligible to play because of FIFA rules concerning mandatory time off in the summer after international duty. All of them, as well as Martin Kelly, Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing played at the Euro 2012 tournament that ended on July 1.
