The Official TFC/Soccer thread

TFC loses 3-1 to Mexico's Santos Laguna in a  CONCACAF Champions League matchup.

Witih the TFC long eliminated from playoff contention in the MLS, they can look forward to a play of a different nature and salvage some pride in the process... a process which becomes increasingly difficult as the TFC will now need a win in El Salvador in order to advance to the CONCACAF Champions League Quarter-Finals.

The TFC needs to win by 3 points in their next game in El Salvador, which will be played in October.

Canada plays the 4th match of the round tonight against Panama in Panama City. Will Johnson is suspended after picking up a 2nd yellow card of the round while Oliver Ocean is injured and has returned to his club team already.

If you think Canada has a passion for hockey, it's nothing compared to soccer fans in Central and South America. Check out the CSA's you tube channel for some of the treatment the Canadians have received at their hotel. Apparently this is common practice, but in the social media age, it has gotten more attention than in previous WCQ campaigns.

Canada loses 2-0 to Panama in the men's CONCACAF region World Cup qualifier.  The loss places Canada in third place based on goal differential with crucial games coming up against winless  Cuba as well as Honduras.  Only the top two teams go on to the Final round.

To make matters worse for the Canadian men's team, striker Dwayne DeRosario suffered an MCL injury (knee) and did not return to the match.

Good news for TFC fans... The TFC defeated El Salvador's Club Deportivo Aguila 3-0 in a CONCACAF Champions League matchup on Wednesday night.  The victory gives the TFC a total of six points and second place, just three points back of first-place Santos Laguna.

Next game is October 24th against Santos Laguna whom the TFC need to win by not less than 2 goals if they are to reach the quarter-finals.  Game will be played in Torr?on, Mexico.

The dinosaurs at FIFA finally spoke and fined/suspended Christine Sinclair 4 games for calling out the sham reffing from the Olympics.

The Canadian Men's national team defeated a 'depleted' Cuban squad 3-0, in the CONCACAF region World Cup qualifying match up played in Torono Friday evening.

While Cuba was dealing with 4 of it's players defecting, Canada made good on it's promise to win a must game in order to continue to stay alive in her quest for a shot at qualifying for the next round, er, make that for the next game, which will be against Honduras.

Canada is in second place in her group with 10 pts. (+3 differential), led by top leader Panama also with 10 pts. (+4 differential), followed by third place Honduras with 8 pts. (+2 differential).  Cuba has 0 wins and remains last.

A tie against Honduras will be all that is needed Canada to advance to the next stage (top two teams in the group advance).

Game against Honduras will be on Tuesday Oct. 15 in San Pedro Sula.
A loss and Canada will be officially eliminated.

At least, we can take solace in the women's performance at the London Olympics.

The TFC played to a 0-0 draw against the Montreal Impact at BMO Field Saturday afternoon.  This makes the TFC winless in 13 consecutive games.  It was the TFC's last home game of the season.

They close out the year against the Columbus Crew on October 28th on the road.
Good luck on that one.  Another losing year, one worst than the other.  Let's hope for something better next season.

The Sounders' average attendance this season was 43,143. They have a great thing going in Seattle.

L.A. Galaxy win the MLS Cup defeating the Houston Dynamo 3-1, in what would surely have been star David Beckham's last hurrah for the Galaxy and in the MLS.
                  Irishman
Beckham, fellow Englishman Robbie Keane, and Landon Donovan provided the offence the Galaxy needed to crown themselves champions.

Robbie Keane is Irish, not English........just saying.

Fixed.  :)

Well, it's not often that I'm awake on a sunday early enough to watch a soccer game but Man City - Man U was worth it. Late goals, players leaving bloody, fans charging refs, reports of police action in the stands..everything a casual fan could want.

Games like that make me like the sport a little more each time it happens.
