The Trade Deadline and the Goalie Issue

I think he's smaller in overall size than both of them. He's a bean pole in street clothes!

He's listed at 6'0, 185. Lundqvist is at 6'1, 188. I think there are probably other concerns.

He may be listed at 6'0" and 185lbs, but, he sure doesn't look it IMHO.  Just a skinny guy in my mind.

As for the other concerns.  I think he suffers from concentration issues at times.

It's probably nothing, but Elliotte Friedman did an AMA earlier and mentioned Kadri looking interesting in a STL uniform. I doubt there is much there, but I wonder if he's heard whispers.

I think it was more of him connecting dots between Steen's injury, Backes being a pending UFA, and the Leafs, to quote Friedman, moving anything that's not nailed down.

I'd take Robby Fabbri off their hands for Kadri.
Isn't Fabbri a center? Any reason why STL would make that trade?

The only reason I could see is that they probably want to win now, and Kadri may give them a better opportunity in the short term. Other than that, who knows?

I remember listening to one of the TSN guys on the radio earlier, either Dreger or McKenzie, talking about how Babcock was overly effusive over the season about praising two guys on the roster. One was Phaneuf, and the other Kadri - and how it wouldn't surprise if this season was a sales job going on for both.

He's only taken 13 faceoffs this year so it'd seem like they're playing him on the wing.

But it wasn't a super serious trade proposal. I don't think we need to do too much fact checking.

You could be right.  I wouldn't be surprised to see Kadri go this week.

Anything's possible.

Level off, sure. I just don't buy the suggestion that he's hit a wall because of games played.

We may be verging on getting into Semantics but I think you'd agree that the single biggest thing that separates a championship quality #1 goaltender and someone who isn't that isn't the ability to put up a .920 save percentage, it's to put up a .920 save percentage playing in 55+ games in a year.

I'm not going to say Reimer has "hit a wall" but I have no problem saying that I'll believe Reimer can do that over the course of a season by seeing him do it.

I certainly agree with the premise that Reimer has to put up solid numbers for the entire year before the Leafs give him a longer contract and more money.

It's really difficult to say definitively what Reimer's trade value and market value is right now.  He has had the worst Goals against average in the NHL for the past 2 years as was reported during one game about a month ago.

He has had a fine year but is struggling now (3 goals on 12 shots tonight is but one example).

He is 22nd in the NHL for GAA at 2.47.  And he is 14th in save percentage at 9.19 (excluding tonight' s game).

But Bernier is currently 43rd (2nd last) in both GAA (3.17) and Save percentage (8.95).  What team would ever want him now especially with his over $4 million dollar contract?

I don't think people read GAA as a stat that reflects particularly heavily on an individual goalie. It's really more reflective of team defense.

Perhaps Lou read it a bit more than most people in looking what he got back in the trade today. :)
