And the fact that pretty much every mock draft on the internet has Galchenyuk at around #4-5 despite playing all of 7 or whatever games this season, is a good indicator of how well thought of he is.

I don't think the Leafs can afford to take a chance that his knee is okay. It seems to me that they have done this before and it ended badly.

Not ringing a bell off the top of my head...

Must be thinking of Antropov, but his knee problems happened after the draft and they did derail the first 4 years of his time in Toronto.

If you draft Galchenyuk, the assumption would have to be that it will take a year for him to fully recover, which means he spends the season in junior.  Need to be patient with a draft pick anyway, but would have to be extra patient with him I would think.

Galchenyuk is clocking in at 198 lbs.. impressive for an 18 year old.  As long as that isn't chip 'n' dip weight from six months rehabbing the knee, he already sounds as if he's got a man's frame.  Means he could be NHL ready that much sooner.

Picking healthy Kadri over injured Cowen...?

Avoid injured players at all costs!!

Also, NHL Central Scouting is releasing its final 2012 draft rankings today.

Praise be to the CSB gospel!

The CSB is good, the CSB is great, we surrender our will as of this date!

EDIT: And just like that..here they are:

Bob McKenzie ‏ @TSNBobMcKenzie

Final NHL CSB rankings: 1. Yakupov 2. Murray 3. Grigorenko 4. Galchenyuk 5. Rielly 6. Ceci 7. Faksa 8. Maatta 9. Trouba 10. Reinhart

Bob McKenzie ‏ @TSNBobMcKenzie

NHL CSB (Euro skaters): 1. Forsberg 2. Teravainen 3. Collberg 4. Lindholm 5. Hertl. Top N.A. goalie: Subban. Top Euro goalie: Vasilevski.

CSB rankings are actually useful this time around since only one of the top euro born players isn't already on the north american list.

Galchenyuk is gaining ground. Still, if Foresberg is on the board at #5 I can't see the Leafs passing him up.  He's #2 on some lists and probably should be.

Assuming the Leafs maintain the 5th pick, I'd prefer, and hope the Leafs are able to, draft one of Yakupov, Grigorenko, Galchenyuk or Forsberg over a d-man.

A #1 stud on D is something the team needs, but I believe a top-line forward (particularly a #1 centre) is still a bigger priority.  Using the 2009 draft as a reference, I'd have a hard time digesting in a few years if the Leafs took a Hedman over a Duchene.

Personally, I'd be thrilled with Dumba or Murray but for those hell bent on a forward, there's a decent chance Edmonton goes "D" and an outside chance the Islanderds do too. Pretty safe bet a top forward will be there when the Leafs draft... Hopefully it's still in the 5 hole.

Draft lottery show tomorrow at 8pm.

From what I remember in previous years the "excitement" of that show lasts about 5 minutes.

One of the most agonizing 30 minutes of television out there.  Might be second only to watching Glee.  Might be.

Not ringing a bell off the top of my head...

Previous first round picks of the Leafs coming off knee injuries - Gary Nylund and Drake Berehowsky.

Well, these things go both ways.  Using the 1993 draft as a reference, you'd probably be even more po'd if you'd taken Daigle over Pronger.

I think we're all together in hoping the leafs come out with a real winner this time.  When is the last time you could say the Leafs got the best player in a draft year?  I'm thinking it might possibly be never.  Wendell Clark might be close in the abysmal 1985 draft, but Neiwendyk was taken in the 2nd round.

Nylund`s injury problems first started when he was an NHL rookie.

How about the All Star Game draft or the 14 hour trade deadline day show.  Both extremely painful

Valid point.

Absolutely.  It'd be nice to finally walk away with a flat-out stud that we are envious of other teams of having, someone we know we can build around for the next many years and know he came through our drafting/system.

You know, if you go back to 1993 and look at all the drafts since then, picks 3 and 5 are usually the most underwhelming of the group.  Not to rain on the parade or anything....

That's it. Trade the pick.
