2015-2016 NHL Thread

Admittedly I'm not following the numbers too closely but it's kind of hard to put Price's injury on him. If, absent Price, they've been exposed as a pretty bad team isn't that on Bergevin, not Therrien?

There was some disagreement about the state of the Habs team without Price but I don't think they have a completely garbage roster aside from him (although now it's been decimated by trades/injuries). Obviously though any team that makes a franchise goalie the centrepiece of their team and replaces him with below-average goaltending is going to see a huge downgrade. I don't know if they misjudged how long Price would be out for or were too overconfident in Condon's abilities because he had a good preseason/October, but yeah either way not bringing in another goalie is all on Bergevin. And therefore a lot of the blame for this particular season's failures needs to be directed at him.

But I just feel like they're using Price's injury as an excuse to hold onto a coach who by many accounts just isn't a very good fit in Montreal (or probably anywhere in the NHL).

It's on both of them, to an extent. The majority of it falls on Bergevin, yeah, but Therrien has also butted heads with players and made some questionable lineup decisions. He's also the easier one for the Habs to let go of, since Bergevin is signed through 21/22 whereas Therrien is signed through 18/19. That being said, if they're going to keep them both, they're digging their own graves and only have themselves to blame.

As a Habs hater, I'm quite happy if they both stay long term.

TVA Sports is reporting that Therrein will be back with the Habs next season. Amazing.

Some of his post-game antics seem very similar to Carlyle's outbursts.  Blaming PK Subban, constantly playing Galchenyuk on the wing and not developing him as a center.  Having really questionable 1st line decisions like David Desharnais, etc.

All these reports about when Price is going to return and stuff...I'm like, does anyone in habs world really care if he comes back this season or not?

Philly with a big win over Detroit tonight. They're now 1 point behind the Wings for the final playoff spot with 2 games in hand. Should be a pretty good race (as long as the Pens don't get involved).

This seems like nothing to do with salvaging the Habs season and everything to do with Price being able to play in the World Cup.

Habs fans are already getting out the carving knives if the next game Price plays is for Team Canada in September.

Any way to get these tweets to actually show up in Tapatalk?  Change a setting or something?

Nothing to do with the boards, it's 2016 and Tapatalk hasn't added that feature yet on their end. I keep that in mind sometimes when posting tweets but when there's a gif embedding is the only option.

I actually asked them about that on twitter and they said "this is something we are working on".

That was on February 26th, 2015.

Thanks for the info, and for checking.  Sheesh.

Pittsburgh is on a tear. They won their 6th in a row last night, against the Caps, and moved into 2nd in the Metropolitan division. Crosby's 3rd in league scoring, and has a chance to catch Benn for 2nd (especially if he keeps up his recent pace - 9 pts in 5GP, 20 pts in the last 12)

I mean...I'm happy that it looks like the Leafs are going to get a 1st this year and all, but do they really need to make it a 25th instead of a 16th?

It's like they don't even care about our draft pick. What nerve!

Crosby On nov 18th was T160th in PTS 18gp-2g-7a-9pts. Since then he is 1st 53gp-29g-38a-67pts

Can Crosby pull off a big Hart trophy upset here?

On the one hand, I suppose, that slow start did matter and did affect Pittsburgh's season negatively.

On the other though, would anyone in the world choose Patrick Kane over Crosby?

92 points (1.26) vs. 76 points (1.07)

Even his 67 points in 53 games is still only matching Kane's 1.26 PPG pace.  That full season is just too good from Kane to put Crosby over top.  Pretty impressive run from Sid though.
