2019-2020 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

TSN reporting that Ceci will be "evaluated in a month" and a decision made from there, so I guess we'll get an extended look at Lily on the right side of the 3rd pairing. I hope he and Sandin rip it up and extinguish any thought of Ceci being more than a bench-warmer for his remaining few months as a Leaf.

This totally sounds like Robidas Island.

I hope Leafs fans will relax when they make mistakes because it's going to happen. These 2 are a huge part of our future, possibly top pairing in a year or so, so show a little patience. I hope they play a steady, simple game and we don't really notice them. I've seen Liljegren play quite a bit and I really like his game. Nothing flashy but does everything well. Hope it translates to the big show.

This is later than I would have liked but if Ceci is out for the rest of the seasonaaaaahem then they will get 2 months of everyday experience before, maybe, their first taste of the playoffs.  If that happens, it will pay benefits next year.

Definitely will. Playoff race, lots of pressure, all good. Hoping for the best and excited.

Pittsburgh did us a favour by beating Florida tonight.
Columbus lost as well. So did the Isles and Carolina is currently losing to Vegas. Going to go down to the wire.
Ugh the Hurricanes won in a shootout.  From what I gather James Reimer could potentially become their #1 goalie.

It's a really tough fight for the Leafs to make the playoffs this season.  They're going to need good goaltending.  If I were Dubas I'd be seriously tempted to acquire some type of stud defenseman right now and just see what happens.  I just wonder what the Leafs would have to give up in exchange.  It would be a high price and they don't have many picks left.  They'd lose a decent young roster player at the very least.

Mason Marchment has been on fire for the Marlies this weekend. He had a hat trick Friday night, and scored twice on Saturday.  Just a wild child idea, if they are going to saddle Engvall on the 4th line, (when I would like to see him moved up the lineup), they drop Timashov and bring up Marchment and have a very large 4th line with some scoring talent in both Engvall and Marchment.

I was hoping Marchment would stick around a while longer. How about losing Gauthier? I fail to see what he brings to this team. Wouldn't mind seeing Korshkov get a call up too.

The leafs have struggled in the third several games in a row. It may be  a fluke but if it isnt, then perhaps it is caused by playing the top lines guys a little more?  For example, Matthews and Marner were at ~24 min last night on a back-to-back.

Just wondering what everyones thoughts are as far as looking into obtaining Dustin Byfuglien.
Jets are looking at terminating his contract.
What is going on with him? Is he still hurt?
Leafs can sign him to finish the year don't think it would cost anything if he terminates his contract. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Probably out of shape as hell. He wouldn't be the first guy I'd target that's for sure.

I just mentioned him because of the situation.
Would he be a FA and cost nothing to a team wanting to gamble on him for the rest of the year?
Wouldn't cost anything but cash.
Maybe sign him and trade some forward(s)for another solid D. Trade Barrie recoup some picks and let Ceci walk after this season.

Reilly-Byfuglien
Muzzin-Dermott
Sandin-Lilly
X=D man from trade

There's no harm in looking but without really knowing what the situation is that caused him to just walk out on his team and questions about what sort of hockey shape he's in it's probably a long shot even if he did want to sign with a team that may or may not make the playoffs.
