2019-2020 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

We are kinda getting PDO'd right now. Sean Tierney seems to think we deserve a better record in the last 2 months than the results indicate.

Forward lines have been shuffled a bit, most notably Nylander going back with Matthews and Marner back with Tavares.

Rielly could be set to return tomorrow too.

Left wing Kapanen is my only meh feeling about that.

This should be fine too:
Nylander-Matthews-Kapanen
Hyman-Tavares-Marner

Hope Souperman can be back sooner than later, didn't realize how much Hyman he brings to his game.

Panthers beat the Blues tonight, so dead even in games, Leafs are only one point up.
We've got dates this week with Tampa (Tues) and Boston (Sat) (plus the Preds on Thurs) whereas Florida has Dallas (Thurs) and then the crappy Devils (Sat) so they'll have a game in hand again at the end of the week and we're going to have to get at least 3 or 4 points out of these games somehow. Ouch!

This team is frustrating. Part of me wants them to miss so management can unload on these guys and say see? You made your money and leveraged the shit out of negotiations and now the team isn't good enough to add enough depth pieces - how does that feel?

Otoh does it really accomplish much? And am I just projecting? Probably. I'd still rather have a kick at the can than not, but I do want the players to feel the heat and hear what guys like Ferraro have to say. You think you have all the time in the world and then you're retired.

That includes wins over Pittsburgh, Toronto, Vegas, and Colorado. Also a 7-3 thumping of the Wild (who were 7-2 coming into that game).

LA's record is also not super indicative of their play. Their possession numbers are among the best in the league, they've just had bad goaltending and a terrible shooting percentage. Some of that is because they don't have a ton of offensive talent, but a significant portion has also been luck, and that seems to be regressing back to the mean for them of late.

True but their roster right now is also just so, so bad. I think it's more a case of hockey is stupid.

Yeah. They earned their record based on lack of talent, for sure. It's more that they play a stronger game than the average bottom of the league team, and that's going to lead to beating some good teams. They're a tougher win than people would expect.

Is there any ETA on Muzz's return?

Original ETA was 4 weeks, and tomorrow will be the 2 week mark. He did skate yesterday for the first time but I doubt that changes the original projection much.
