2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

David says not to read too much into this because Dermott's status at practice was kind of all over the place, but I was wondering if Muzzin's injury was going to force the Leafs to split up the top pairing eventually. Mostly just because for Holl to get back into the line-up otherwise he'd need to replace one of the other two RHD (Lyubushkin or Liljegren). But if Brodie moves back to the left side then Holl could come in for Dermott instead, which is probably the better move.

Definitely the Red Lobster apology meal running its course.

Oh?

Mik must be quite sick.
Might just be to get him some pay.

Might be a bit early, but if they are going to give Robertson a run, having him play the Bunting role for Tavares-Nylander in their already very sheltered deployment is a good experiment to run with the playoffs all but locked up. It's a line Keefe has been trying to run for awhile now (2020 bubble, Robertson's brief call up last season).

At home, with last change, Matthews and Marner can stay together, but on the road to spread out the capabilities:
Bunting - Matthews - Nylander
Robertson - Tavares - Marner
is potentially no fun for the opponent.

Just a regular update on how absurdly good Matthews is:

That's bananas, for multiple reasons. He's averaging almost .5 5v5 goals per game. There aren't many players who average that on total goals.

Interesting.  But the really interesting thing in that graphic is Mangiapane.

Just 9 powerplay goals in that span though for him. Basically the new Brendan Gallagher.

what he calls ?the most beneficial? thing he did during his recovery: logging hours and hours daily of video study.

After completing early morning workouts, Robertson would return to his Toronto apartment where he lives alone and comb over the video the Leafs development staff sent him and the NHL games he had picked out himself. He?d open a notebook to jot down his observations. He?d always taken notes here and there during video breakdowns, but during this injury, he filled page upon page with what he saw: reference points for later. This injury caused Robertson to re-evaluate how he plays.

He doesn?t want to play more cautiously, but instead become a smarter player and avoid injuries once and for all. So when studying video, he wanted to find ways to give himself space and to pick and choose when he needs to go full tilt and when to back off.

He pored over video of NHL goal scorers with good habits such as Jake Guentzel, Bryan Rust and Travis Konecny to look for shooting patterns he could mimic.

?I got more development out of my injury than not,? said Robertson. ?Sometimes when you?re playing, you don?t think (about development) but I think my injury helped a lot with studying video and analyzing on my game.?

What were we saying about Fleury again?
3 weeks until trade deadline. Let's see what Mrazek can do and if Jack can get it back. Confidence is a hell of a thing to lose as a player, see JT but even worse for a goalie because when he makes a mistake, it's usually a goal. I think he'll get it back. I kind of wonder if Dubas got him signed if it would help. One less thing to worry about for him..huge leap though because if he doesn't get it back, you're screwed. Could you imagine the Dubas hate that would be going on now if he had signed him to a 5x5 contract?

One thing I haven't read much of lately is the fact that Campbell has recorded 38 GP thus far, a personal record in terms of starts in any whole season, and the Leafs are only at game 52.

Maybe he's just mentally fatigued...physically maybe?

I'm really starting to think that the Leafs are going to need a goaltender at/before the deadline.
