Anyone been around here 10 yrs?

When I first discovered tmlfans, it was around 2005.  I was perusing the web in search of a forum for discussing the Leafs and then some, and when I came across this one, I enjoyed reading the banter between posters.  The humour made me laugh out loud at times.  It put me in a good mood (as my father had passed away the year before).

When I finally joined tmlfans the same year, I was using my Palm Treo, much to the chagrin of some posters who weren't too familiar with the looks of the posts.  I understood that but at the time, I did not own a computer.

It has been approximately 10 years that I've been a member of this site.

Anyways, I'd like to give an appreciative nod to Rob & Rick, and to the administrative staff, for keeping this site running at top notch, and, to give us Leafs fans a place to vent, rant, cry, and cheer!  :) :)

I think so yeah, I remember always surfing into leafs.rivals.com, and people would always ask me why I spent so much time there :)

I joined when it was penaltybox.com. No clue what year that was but I know I was killing time on a university library computer. Still check into this site pretty much every day.

16 years for me, same username since I started.

Post totals mean very little in identifying long-term members since the site has been around in various forms and names, along with completely crashing a time or two and having to start from scratch.

I remember meeting up with a few folks from here years ago at Morty's and had a blast. Rick, Rob, Darryl, Warrior, BMan, and Colonel Korn were a few of the fellow attendees.

Anyone remember Sandra and her love of Jonus Hoglund?

How about Flyer trolls Salzy and Juicer?
There was another aggravating member from Revelstoke B.C. named B.I.D. (Ballard Is Dead).

MGro and the devastating news of her tragic death?

Thank you for all you've done over the years to keep this place going Rick, it's been an interesting ride. I hope all is well!

14 yrs & counting for me too. Remember, J-Ho and her Hoglund fascination. Salzy and Juicer, oh my what a pair they were.

And of course the news of m-gro. :'(

And yes, thanks Rick for everything you do and continue to do.

More than 10 years. I was definitely back in university (pre-2004), because I also remember meeting some of the group in Waterloo at McGinnis Front Row. I also remember Corn Flake's message board back in the day. Penaltybox.com!

Thanks all - kind words indeed.  Hats off to my partners Rob, Darryl, and some guy named Jay.  A big shoutout to Mr. T, CW, and M-gro.  And our writers and moderators do a fantastic job!

As I posted in the other thread, this year will be my 19th.  In the past few years, family commitments have prevented me from following hockey as much as I used to thus I don't post here like I did in the past, but I still check in all the time.

Where's Rocky?  Where's Mike Fish?  There was also a rather caustic truck driver that posted here during that era who ruffled a few feathers.  He used ellipses between each thought.  My favorite troll of all time had to be Salzy.  I admit I took the bait a couple times, as he insisted that not a single Leaf d-man could crack the Flyers' lineup.  This was when McCabe and Kaberle were putting up 60+ points!  What a peach.  But the poster I miss the most is Ballard Is Dead.  I remember when his screen name was "32 and counting".  Good god, today he'd be "49 and counting".

My screen name was derived from the pothead phrase "Killer Green Buds".  That connected with the Leafs nickname of "The Buds", and of course it was the Mike Smith era with all the attendant focus on Russian players, so KGB also made sense in that way.

And it was from the then-PenaltyBox.com that I learned of 9/11.  I was living in Taiwan at the time and had just finished teaching my 7-9PM class.  Before heading home from my school, I stopped in to the computer room to check the news.  I came here and saw a thread titled something like "Big News from New York".  For a second I assumed it had something to do with Eric Lindros, who had just signed for the Rangers, but quickly found out it was something far more serious.  I raced home and spent the night watching CNN International.

Thanks for all the time and money you've sunk into this site, Rick (and all others involved in keeping it afloat).

Where's your avatar from?

I'll turn 45 tomorrow and I'll bet you there's not a guy in my age bracket who can't tell you that it's from Activision hockey, one of the greatest games ever made for the Atari 2600, nee VCS.

Been here since around 2000 on and off - was through the former penaltybox.com that I found out about radio stations to listen to the games on and the forum has been my way of following the Leafs ever since with varying degrees of commitment over the years.

I was here during the Rivals and Penaltybox.com -days as well and although I stopped paticipating in the exchange here a decade or so ago, I have continued to check this site almost daily since. It's amazing to see a fan resource like this keep up the good quality for such a long time. Back in the late 90's - early 00's this was a (relativly) safe refuge from the Rob Blake trade suggestions and the like.
Truly a feat worthy of recogniton, Rick and crew.

I remember how I used to think it was funny that some of the admins were so old like in their early 20's, and this year im turning 33 ::)

If I recall correctly, I started on the forum right around the time that Karel Pilar was drafted, which was the summer of 2001.  15 years...
