Auston Matthews

It seems strange to me that they haven't given Matthews an "A".  I am hearing grumblings that it is for a reason.  The whole thing seems pretty hush hush.  It's not hockey related.

Probably something to do with future contract negotiations. His agent could use his captaincy as bargaining power .  8)

Lol.

This front office babies its babies. Listen to the way Babcock talks about leadership being on and off the ice, and about accruing battle scars. Hainsey, Marleau, Tavares, and Martin are/were here for mentoring the future/now current core. The captaincy is Matthews? whenever they feel he is ready to have it.

I've heard that Matthews is a mustachioed four-flusher of low character who frequently fails to write his mother.

A personality?!?

I actually wouldn't be surprised if Justin was right on this one. At the very least, he certainly doesn't dress like a hockey robot.

His social media remarks and particular goal celebrations suggests yes. Also that video Connor Brown took of his dancing.

Also the autograph he wrote on Craig Anderson's stick after his debut.

No, I believe him very much. I was more sarcastically expressing my disapproval at the idea of a hockey player having a personality.

See my response to CtB but in addition, I'd add that too often in sports some people tend to confuse "Loud Fratty Jackass" with personality. More Gronks we don't need.

We both should have known better, considering the punctuation marks used.

That curl & drag that he does I'm pretty certain gives the opposing goaltender nightmares.

He used both different wrist shots last night.  I remember before the season started they mentioned Auston worked on changing up his wrist shot to give goalies a different look and get it off faster.  We saw it during the exhibition game against the Habs when he scored on the PP, he got the puck on his stick and immediately fired a wrist shot before Price had a chance to move over.

Last night, the first goal was the typical "curl and drag" wrist shot we saw so much of last season, and the OT winner was the "get the wrist shot off fast" that we saw in exhibition.  It was on and off his stick so fast I barely had time to celebrate.

Is there any chance Auston Matthews goes full on bush man beard along the same lines of Joe Thorton or Brent Burns?  I mean is it even a possibility for him?

I'm asking for a friend.
