This is an interesting tidbit:

The head coach of Nylander?s Austrian practice team, Dave MacQueen, also provides an update: ?I had a feeling he wasn?t going to be around for the rest of the week.?

Since Michael Nylander made over $25m as an NHL player (the bulk after gaining his reputation for being difficult), and William has already made around $3M, I doubt William?s lack of income is presenting the cash flow problems that you or I might experience in a similar position.

Also, Nylander's "power" comes from a pretty simple reality. The Leafs may be in first place but the truth is that if the Leafs really want to make some noise this year they need all hands on deck. The Leafs without Nylander not only aren't a great team, I don't even think they have all that distinct an advantage over a lot of other teams when it comes to their top 3 forwards. Marner, Matthews and Tavares are great but I don't think they're necessarily better than Crosby-Malkin-Kessel or Ovechkin-Backstrom-Kuznetsov or Stamkos-Kucherov-Point and so on. Boston, Philly...they're all also in that mix and the Leafs certainly don't have a massive edge on any of them in terms of defense or goaltending. The Leafs, sans Nylander, are pretty middle of the pack in the Eastern Conference.

They don't vault into the stratosphere with Nylander either but their only hope to be a big player this year was to overwhelm with forward depth and Nylander, and his hopeful improvement, is a big part of that.

I believe that was Nik?s point. That?s what appears to be happening, even though we haven?t really got enough facts to make that judgement.

More or less. I think the actual facts we have are next to zero and I don't think that what's being put out there is based on any real knowledge either. Absent actually being William Nylander, for instance, who is actually in a position to speak with any authority as to how much he's listening to his Father?

Not really an interesting tidbit since Nylander was only there to visit his Sister and she was playing tennis elsewhere next week. You are reading too much into that comment.

I thought he was meeting Nylander's agent?  He's a busy guy that Dubas man.

He met with Nylander's agent in NY today, flight from NY to Philly is real short

I think it makes a lot of sense for a young guy in his first GM job to spend some nights just out at games, meeting other execs and establishing relationships.

Blitzing cheezsteaks with Bobby Clarke: that's an education all right.

Cheesesteaks with Clarke then ayuhuasca with Gritty.

Dubas` plan all along was just to get some goddamn free cheesesteaks sandwiches!

We've been duped folks. Instead of working on signing Willy he's riding that sweet sweet Philly Cheesesteak train. Lou would have never let this happen.

Interesting isn't it that without Nylander...(not that we already don't know, but it's worth reiterating):

All you need to know about how much the Leafs are missing Nylander can be summed up in one number: 46.96.
46.96% CF is Auston Matthews current possession rating. Other than Patrick Marleau?s, it?s the worst on the Leafs among forwards.

The fact that the Leafs best player scored ten goals on 50% shooting to kick of the season hides the fact that nearly every game their line has been getting destroyed.

?Paternalistic and gossipy horsecrap?... in the usual abrasive Nik style. This whole thread is just that, 100% speculation including your opinion.

This thread is not, and has never really been, about two opposing opinions. For the most part I haven't speculated about anything. I haven't said what I think Nylander should or will get. I haven't advanced reasons as to why the parties involved are making the decisions they're making. I certainly haven't said that Nylander "deserves" the salary he's asking for and that Dubas is morally in the wrong for not giving it to him.

What this thread has mainly been about is some people engaging in unfounded and, at times, unfair speculation about Nylander and his motives and other people pointing that out or, occasionally, dismissively laughing out loud.

Happy Nylander contract signing day guys.  I predict it gets done today, also, work has stopped blocking this site, I guess they took my threat to quit seriously.

Unfair? In what sense? In my view this board is made for whatever speculation one may have. The discussion gets filtered through the commentary.

Good to hear. I hope you issued them a sternly worded letter.

Nylander wasn't at practice today for what it's worth.  Maybe headed for TO??

Am I the only one who loves Gritty and his sinuous, blaze-y leghair?

Don't answer that.

Where are our TMLFans european correspondents that hang out in airports to report if Nylander has passed through?
