Just read in the Sun that the Feds are sitting on 600,000 doses of the AZ vaccine which should be given within 12 weeks at most of the first dose.  According to the article mixing and matching Mrna vaccines with AZ is not a good idea.  Not enough hard science at this point. ...

If there's not enough hard science, then how do they know it is not a good idea? Dr Tam was saying that it actually might be a good idea.

As I mentioned in my last post, I am very open to a 2nd dose of AZ where the research shows if clotting was not an issue with the first AZ shot, it will be infinitesimal with the 2nd dose.

Did you read the article I posted above?

My 28 years old son got the Pfizer shot yesterday, they moved him up a week as he is supposed to be in Jasper to start a Chef  gig.  Already been pushed back on that position for over a month now so hope they open up Alberta.
All I know is I want to start working again asap.
I am as sympathetic as the next person but what you said is literally not what most people in the field have said about mixing AZ & MRNA.

I get you're anxious and all that but you can't just keep saying things that are just factually untrue.

This is from the article yesterday in the Sun, (just so you know I didn't make this s__t up) after this I will not speak on the subject again;

Like a spoiled child, Canada is sitting on more than 600,000 AZ shots. Public health officials don?t want them, but they?re not letting anyone else have them.

In a stunning interview last weekend, CTV?s Evan Solomon spoke to Sir John Bell, regius professor at Oxford University. He developed the AZ vaccine and says early results from pick ?n? mix studies show there are seriously bad reactions when the Pfizer and Moderna MrNA vaccines are mixed with the AZ viral vector shots.

No one thinks you?re making it up. The issue is the sun is garbage tabloid reporting.

The issue you're conflating is reactions. There are acceptable reactions and not acceptable reactions. A reaction on its own isn't a problem its the degree of reaction. So far the reactions have been fairly mild and there is a good immune response. This is ultimately what we want.

I have no problem with people who got AZ to stick with AZ but considering the clotting issue and how much more mRna we have it makes sense to offload or use AZ as a second dose where possible and give everyone else mRna, especially with the state India is in where the vaccine is manufactured.  I do agree that hoarding vaccines that we won't use (and will likely let expire) is not an ethical move.

First off, the concern about AZ use isn't unique to this country. The US, for instance, I still don't think has approved it's use and has millions of doses of it.

But I think the most important thing here is the pathetically desperate way the Sun is trying to attribute this to "the Feds". The Federal Government isn't deciding policy on individual vaccine use, provinces are. It's why policy on AZ use isn't uniform. Right now the reason for the backlog is because there isn't a consistent supply of AZ and provinces are primarily worried about getting people their first shots. If it turns out they don't want to mix vaccines, then they had to halt the rollout of AZ because you don't want to give people the first shot and then not know if you'll get enough AZ to give a second of it.

I appreciate there are some people who want to turn everything into partisan squabbling but at this point in the pandemic you'd think that people would at least understand the difference between Federal and Provincial responsibilities.

I get this isn't the biggest scandal or anything, but come on.

I think we need to watch the OPC attack ad a few more times to distract from the fact that Ford has screwed up getting a lot of AstraZeneca doses that are going to expire on Monday.

I literally thought the same thing! Were on the same wavelength here.

If you want to do attack ads I don't want to see it between levels of govt and definitely not when other provinces are doing much better compared to us due to provincial health measures/handling.

Canada is 5th in the world right now for one dose. And my Grandmother got her second today so...fingers crossed for even better performance in the future.

Mine are crossed as well!

Had our first jab on April 13 of AZ. Looks like we will get the 2nd Jab within 2 weeks and probably be Pfizer. They don't be to concerned about the mix.

Yes, there are still a lot of studies mid-work on this one but everything that has come out so far suggests mixing the two vaccines seems to be fine.

That's good news.

A strange thing.  I got the AZ jab May 8th.  and the hand on the arm where I got the jab.  the bottom oy my hand and picky still feel numb and tingly.  Such a weird side effect.  I called the doctor and the on call nurse said maybe they hit a nerve with the needle.  I dont know.  I'm supposed to call back if it doesn't get better.
