Scrivens gets an A+ for that post-game interview.

What did he say?
He was just charismatic, funny. Talked about growing up as a kid watching Potvin and Hextal. When Amber asked him when he knew he was going to start, he pulled a Tortorella and said (in a non dickish way) "we'll keep it in the room."

Good win, but I wish Scrivens would have shut the door. Komisarek, Phaneuf, Kostaka and Kadri were also very good tonight.

Carlyle seems to have these guys playing a more calm game, I didn't have the feeling that they were going to blow the game. However, this is not a very good Montreal team. Leafs are going to have to bring more than this to beat better teams.

Very classy just saying that Reims was his biggest fan out there and had Reims started he would have been doing the same.  Great friends off the ice, wives are friends.  Really when it comes down to Reimer and Scrivens as people they have great character.

We need Billy Smith to slap some sense into the both of them.

Little stat review

Orr & Brown with 4 mins ice time. McClement with 13+ mins
http://www.nhl.com/ice/boxscore.htm?id=2012020005

Kadri with less than 10 mins

Franson was low dman with 12+ mins.

Komarov led the team with 8 hits.

Lupul, MacArthur & Liles led with 4 shots each.

Montreal, who were a poor faceoff team last year, beat the Leafs handily in the circle:
Bozak 43%
Grabo 35%
Kadri 33%
McClement 33%

I'd rather Steckel over Orr's 4 mins.

It's hard to draw too much from that game. The puck was bouncing. Both teams were out of sync. It resembled poorly played shinny at times.

Scrivens continues to look shaky out of the net but otherwise, I thought he did a good job stopping the puck.

Having said that, I'm delighted with their W.

I think Kadri was reigned in a bit after that boarding call.
I disagreed with that call.  When you look at the replay, Kadri hit Markov side to side.  Markov jerked his head back to get the penalty call.

Steckel must be inserted back into the lineup, not just for the face offs (58% last year), but he also scored 8 goals, 2 of them short-handed, led the forwards with hits (170), had more takeaways than giveaways, he was a damn capable penalty killer. I thought he was Carlyle type, defensively minded forward. Man, I wish Colton all the best, but we need Steckel back.

One game isn't entirely fair to make a good judgment but Armstrong kind of looked the same as he did when he finished with the Leafs. I used to like his game but after he got hurt with the Leafs, he was never the same player.

That's how it looked to me as well. And poor 'injured' Markov promptly played the point on the PP in the next shift. Years ago, I used to respect the Habs talent but I don't respect that garbage and it seems to have become a habit with that club.

Yeah Markov turned as the hit came not like Kadri went after his numbers. Oh well Leafs won regardless.

It was boarding, though, not hitting from behind.

Sure but there's still a judgment call by the refs on whether the hit player puts himself in a defenseless position prior to the hit.

Sure, but the determining factor isn't where the player was facing.

As Nik said, which direction the player was facing is not a consideration here, and, regardless, on that one, I felt a pretty good case could have been made for charging as well. I like the aggressiveness from Kadri, but, he needs to make sure his timing on using it is better than that.

ok, tonight: second line looked a step behind and out of sync all night.  Other than that they played pretty well, although I wish they could have pressed a little more in the third but maybe they ran out of gas a bit at the end.  Scrivens got the ugliest first star performance I have ever seen.  Montreal is baaaaad!  Refs were friendly for the blue and white (especially at the beginning of the game).  Love the third line, like the 4th line but is mcclement allowed in the offensive zone or what?  seemed to me like he was peeling of to the bench everytime he hit the red line.

Hope Reimer gets a start soon!

Go Leafs 1-0 BABY!

Hard to judge Scrivens based on this one.  The Habs are awful.  I can't remember any odd-man rushes or breakways for them, and only that one sustained sequence in the 3rd when we were hemmed in.  Our D deserves credit for a good game, but as others have said, let's see how things go against a quality team.

I hope Reimer gets the start on Monday.
