It was a two on one and a screen shot that scored on Scrivens. I'm more inclinded to be annoyed by all the odd man rushes tonight than goaltending, so far anyway.

So if a goaltender is in position, he is not obliged to, you know, make a save?

If you can name a guy who has saved every shot ever taken at him then I will concede your point. But until then I'll blame the Leafs' defense for the score tonight, not Scrivens' goaltending, maybe his puck handling, but that's a rookie mistake not a bad goaltending mistake.

When do people start saying it's the goaltender's fault. When their SV% is below .800? .700? I mean, honestly. 2/3 shots went in. The first he should've saved as he was in position but blew the save like Raycroft.

Secondly, he made an idiotic play and was screened due to a dumb play. Decent goaltending would have it at a 0-0 game.

If Phoenix had our goaltending we'd be up 4-0 by now.

Yup and if we had  Dave Tippett as head coach we would be in first place right now

Seriously, no we wouldn't. Our goaltending is bad irrespective of defense right now. It's just bad.

I would argue that our coaching has been as bad, if not worse that our goaltending.

I guess the leafs abandoned the box? 3 guys in the corner on a Pk me thinks is not good. The running all over is sure to confuse the opposition into coughing up the puck.

Right, I forgot. It's Wilson's fault the goalies can't make saves. It's also Wilson's fault we were winning when we had a decent goaltender in Reimer. Wilson has bad systems.

The PK didn't look all that bad. They killed it off. They were out of position a couple of times but they always got back into the box. I think this is more an issue of non-confidence in goaltending and overplaying the position in order to be a hero to prevent a goal, which ironically can be counter-intuitive.

You and your irresponsible use of logic. Don't you know? This is not a place that takes well to the logical. :P

While the goaltending is a problem, we still have all of 0 goals in half the game.

We've been having trouble scoring and it persists. You don't win unless you score, and we ain't been doing that lately.

I think a lot of people would argue that getting shaky goaltending so early in a game has an impact upon other aspects of the game, such as scoring, even if it is hard to quantify.

Yeah but they haven't been starved for chances though. Kessel could have 2 G if not more tonight, it's just nobody's been able to finish (I'm not blaming Kessel but his chances are the most obvious).

But it's not solely a Leafs issue - I'm sure a Phoenix fan is loving Smith's strong play.  His stats bear out that he's been pretty great this year, so I don't think it's just a Leafs thing.

But it's not just this game. In the last 5 games Toronto's averaged 1.8 G per game. There's very little scoring depth.

It's been an issue of late, and it continues to be tonight.

Well IMO it looked bad. But I guess it doesn't matter how it looks as long as the puck stays out of our net. But there is no reason for 3/4 guys to be in the same corner during a Pk.

No doubt.  I think almost all teams slump scoring goals at some point in the season though.  I also think if they were to solidify the netminding position that we would see that confidence go throughout the lineup.  Right now it just feels like everything is coming to a head at the same time - the 2nd line slumping, our 2nd and 3rd string goalies being inconsistent, playing a stretch of tough teams...

I think it's hard to really make a definitive statement about a lot of it because it hasn't been a large enough sample size and because it's just been a weird situation with Reimer.

All that pressure at the end of the period must mean the player's aren't listening to Wilson's systems. How else could they get those kinds of chances?

Seriously? How many goals did Reimer score when he was in net? How many years in a row can we be a basement dwelling team in special teams before we realize it's coaching? Have we not had enough turn over yet on the team? Is it not the coaches job to get these guys going?

It's pretty clear from the stats the Leafs have played better when Reimer has been in net.
