It was a two on one and a screen shot that scored on Scrivens. I'm more inclinded to be annoyed by all the odd man rushes tonight than goaltending, so far anyway.

So if a goaltender is in position, he is not obliged to, you know, make a save?

If you can name a guy who has saved every shot ever taken at him then I will concede your point. But until then I'll blame the Leafs' defense for the score tonight, not Scrivens' goaltending, maybe his puck handling, but that's a rookie mistake not a bad goaltending mistake.

When do people start saying it's the goaltender's fault. When their SV% is below .800? .700? I mean, honestly. 2/3 shots went in. The first he should've saved as he was in position but blew the save like Raycroft.

Secondly, he made an idiotic play and was screened due to a dumb play. Decent goaltending would have it at a 0-0 game.

If Phoenix had our goaltending we'd be up 4-0 by now.

Belfour was 0.892 and 3.29 in his last year here (Was that the Aubin year too?). Slightly better stats his year after in Florida.

Those stats would be welcome now on the Leafs lol

Two zip after one, eh?

Not good. Leafs best start winning again, or that 10-12-1 or whatever prediction that someone made a few games ago may become reality...

That was me. I also said they'd be out of the playoffs by January.

Out as in 9th, or out as in effectively eliminated?

Which do you think?

I don't know, that's why I'm asking.

I think they could be in 9th by the end of this month and another bad month in December could pretty much kill any chance.

You have to figure Burke is working the phones looking for a reliable goalie.  Gus just hasn't been able to find consistency, and in fairness to Scrivens, he's probably not ready for this yet.

Goose seems fine to me in the role he started out with, Scrivens has shown flashes of brilliance and that's a good sign but the Leafs need a starter, they can't run with 2nd and 3rd string goaltending for much longer the way it is.

True they need to shore up some frustrating bad habits defensively but with yo-yo goaltending those negative issues/tendencies are magnified noticeably.

You know who else showed flashes of brilliance? Bester. Really every goalie has an awesome save here and there - Scrivens just does not strike me as an NHL goalie.

His positioning has been stellar at times, far better than Bester in many ways though it's a tough comparison considering the differences in the game and in particular the lineup from that year, Vaive had 52g 41a and -14, eeeesh ( Salming was -34 that year too...) just how did coach Nykoluk justify that..... Give him 100 gp, I bet he does ok with some experience and a decent team in front of him.

I gotta agree with Bender. We had the better scoring chances in that period. At worst it should be 1-0. That first goal made the 2nd one look so much worse.

Seriously. If the Leafs had even had average goaltending over the past few weeks, we wouldn't at all be concerned about another November swoon, and we'd probably be patting our backs about being fans of a team up near the top of the league standings.

Out of a playoff position. I think they'd have to try pretty hard to kill their chances completely. Then again, they're a pretty bad team so who knows? I would be surprised if it got that bad to be honest, and I think they totally suck.

Kulemin should be benched. I think next to Dupuis he's been the most useless guy out there all season.

Oh c'mon, that's just not true. He's struggling but he hasn't been that bad.

Who's been worse? Frattin? Sure, but he got sent down. Watch Kulemin's lazy stick check the next time he's "battling" for a puck. Useless.

I've seen most of his career, I don't agree with you, at all.

The Kessel line is as good as any line in the league right now. I feel like they get at least half a dozen top notch scoring chances every game.

Yup and if we had  Dave Tippett as head coach we would be in first place right now

Can anyone name a team who has had comparable goaltending as the Leafs in recent years?

Nice to see the same old post-lockout formula now that Reimer's play is a fading memory:

competent goalie on the other team = we are screwed

I was watching a couple of shifts and didn't think he looked lazy at all. I'm actually very confused as to where you're seeing this.

Most of his career isn't this season.

While the goaltending is a problem, we still have all of 0 goals in half the game.

We've been having trouble scoring and it persists. You don't win unless you score, and we ain't been doing that lately.

Seriously, no we wouldn't. Our goaltending is bad irrespective of defense right now. It's just bad.
