Game 2: Sabres at Leafs - Sportsnet 7:00 PM

I'm a little surprised Komisarek might be out. He was pretty effective on Saturday - though, I guess you gotta get these other guys into some of these early games.

Carlyle said with so many back to back games this season, he wants to keep players fresh so some who didn't play Saturday will be playing tonight.

He felt they earned the right.

As well, with Gardiner coming back soon, they'll have to make a decision on their D so they want to give all their D a chance to show what they can do in a game.

Steckel did practice some with Brown & Orr. Can't imagine McClement sitting out so I don't know if he'll get in.

Sabres have a scouting report breakdown of Scrivens up on wall in dressing room. Among items: "Busy puck handler. Forecheck-able!"

Carlyle said that Scrivens is probably the best goalie they have for puck handling. They've asked Ben to keep it simple - make the easy play.

Yeah... he doesnt need to wander off.

He needs to quit 2nd guessing himself. I'm a fairly good puck handler when there's no pressure. The second there is, I've f'd it up enough times, that I almost expect it now. That's how Scrivens looked on Saturday night.

It might be as simple as not having any pre-season games and wanting to get guys into some games rather than anyone being taken out of the lineup because of poor performance.

Five games in a week i'd rather he used more guys to get everyone some game action.  Wouldn't want someone sitting for a long period of time and then have to be thrown in cold due to an injury.

Not sure how Reimer gets into "game shape" though if he doesn't get to play.  Hopefully he gives quality goaltending when he gets his shot.

I have a strong hunch he'll play Wednesday. Of course if Scrivens wins tonight, then my hunch won't be so strong.  ;)

That might be a tall order for him on the road against the Pens.  I guess you can't shelter him, though.  He has to play at some point.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how Fraser and Holzer do as a pair tonight vs. NHL competition.  I really think these two will deliver as an excellent shut down pair, reliable and hard nosed but don't go out of position or take stupid penalties.

Carlyle cautioned the media with very similar words

Me too.

It wouldn't surprise me if they save Reimer for Thursday against the Islanders.

That would make more sense unless Scrivens is awful tonight.  I wouldn't want to see Reimer thrown in on the road against a high powered Pittsburgh offense.  Better to ease him into playing against the Islanders.

Four minutes of Colton Orr?  What did that bring to the game?  At least Steckel can win a faceoff.

Tonight's one of those nights where they might actually need Orr in the lineup.

Then have him take Browns spot.  I really can't tell much difference between Brown and Orr, except that Orr usually wins his fights.

Except that, you know, they need Brown as well, as he's a much more effective forechecker than Orr.
