Goaltending conundrum v3.0-Reimer or Bernier?

Despite Scrivens's recent success, I'm firmly in the Reimer camp. I really think he's the better goalie of the two. I'm not sure if I can fully explain it, but I just feel more confident with him in net.

I know what you mean.  Reimer seems to be in better position for shots and has fewer "scrambly" moments in net.  Just seems to be more calm during play. Also his rebound control is very good when he's on

I'm still not sold on Scrivens, however, memories of Potivin/Rhodes are coming back to me... and that's a good thing right?

Yeah, that's how I feel as well. While I'm not sure there's much of a difference in their skill levels, Reimer seems much more settled and calm when he's in there. There are less "what is he doing" moments for Reimer than there are with Scrivens. It seems like at least once or twice a game, Scrivens gets over-committing or needing to flop around to make a save. Fortunately, he or one of his teammates have been able to stop the puck in most of those incidents, but, they're still worrisome.

Damion Rhodes. Haven't thought of that name in a while

Maybe I am tainted by last season's Reimer.  Maybe it is because I have yet to see Scrivens not produce at any level yet. Scrivens hasn't had that bad season, it still could come though.  I have seen Scrivens really settle down from his first few games and remember we are talking about a rookie here with still limited games in the league, I can give him that time to settle, it's normal right.  You may see Scrivens as more scrambly but I find you see the big athletic stop much more.  I liken it to Reimer=Belfour and Scrivens=Cujo, both equally effective.  Until Scrivens falls on his face, I will always give him the benefit of the doubt.

It is a good thing Joe. Do you remember at one point the Leafs had Potvin, Rhodes and Darren Puppa ?

Reimer = Belfour and Scrivens = Cujo??  I had to double check who posted this.

Obviously, I am talking playing styles here :).  Reimer like Belfour plays the angles and is often in he position to let the puck hit him, his games look unspectacular.  Scrivens like Cujo relies on more of an acrobatic approach and reflexes and his stops often have to look spectacular.

Reimer to return this week?

Likely see him in the second half of the back to back Thursday, wouldn't you think, no need to rush things.  I would be surprised to see him tomorrow.

Makes sense to me.

Any word if he plays tonight? He always seems to play well against Montreal.

I've got a feeling they will put him in tonight.

I doubt he plays tonight. There was some speculation for tomorow night though. It's also out there that he may be another week.

Looks like he'll be the backup tonight.

jonasTSN1050: Another start for Ben Scrivens by the looks of it tonight against Montreal.

jonasTSN1050: James Reimer had almost sole control of net opposite Scrivens this morning. Seems possible for him to return as a back-up tonight.

Rynnas back to the minors as per Jonas Siegel.

Seems confirmed that Reimer is backup tonight.

Jonas Siegel ‏@jonasTSN1050
Jussi Rynnas back to the Marlies this afternoon. James Reimer returns tonight, likely as a backup.
