Goaltending conundrum v3.0-Reimer or Bernier?

Joe S. said:
I will admit that I haven't seen a single game of Scrivens in the AHL, so I'm going on very little data here, but the games he did play in the NHL last year did not show me any hint of him being an NHL goalie. He was Peter Ing bad out there.

Ah, but you have heard of him.

I wouldn't go that far. He had a number of excellent starts. The problem was more that when he wasn't excellent, his inexperience was clearly exposed.

Jonas Siegel says Scrivens starting.

So if Carlyle is not saying and the goalies are hush hush, my guess is that he is guessing. Typical of Siegel.

It's based on who was in the visitors net for pre-game skate, which is typically the starter.

typically yes but this is Caryle, hes not typical.

Siegel is also pretty straight up quote & facts based.

Paul Hendrick is reporting Scrivens in net now, too.

More media guessing:  :)

Paul Hendrick ‏@HennyTweets
Ben scrivens will start for the leafs tonight. Carey price counters for the habs. #tmltalk

Not surprised Scrivens gets the call. Too much rust on Reimer and it showed in camp. Six goals in scrimmage was exclamation point.

Michael Traikos ‏@Michael_Traikos
#leafs said they wanted to let training camp decide jobs and Scrivens easily outplayed Reimer all week. #statues

Kevin McGran ‏@kevin_mcgran
Ben Scrivens in road team net. that indicates he is starting. #leafs

Andy Frost ‏@AndyFrostQ107
At this point, it sounds like Ben Scrivens gets the start tonight vs Habs. Played with Marlies all season & is in Game shape.

Been calling for a Scrivens start, but didn't think it would actually happen. Says more about Reimer than it does Scrivens.

Scrivens' AHL stats this year:

4-7-1, 2.22 GAA (7th), 0.917 SV% (16th).

Although I was calling for Reimer to start I'm sure he'll into some games once he's in proper shape. The Leafs' coaching staff knows better than I do.

I suppose you could take the glass half-full or glass half-empty approach to this news. I mean, what a terrific way to motivate Reimer!

Ben got off to a sluggish start in the AHL this season. But in his last 10 games:
8 wins -1 loss - 1 SOL
.932 save%
1.89 GAA
.. he's back to last year's form

And by all accounts I've seen of the short preseason, he outplayed Reimer

I'm not sure why, but I just don't feel confident with Scrivens. I know he's playing really well; my opinion isn't really based on anything tangible.

I hope Reimer shakes the rust off soon. i want to see him get on a roll.

You know, these leadership opinions we have are really just outliers' opinions...we really don't know the leadership capabilities, nor the personality types of these guys.  We don't even really know the dressing room dynamic of these teams.

I'm just sayin'...leadership qualities aren't really something that we can quantify here, and it's difficult to form a proper argument one way or another without knowing the players.

No, I gotcha, I suppose I just didn't see how it connected to the goaltending conundrum. Unless, I mean, are you talking about Carlyle?

I'm guessing he meant that for the Alternate Captains thread.

Seriously, Frank, pay attention. Get your head out of your arse.
