Goaltending Showdown - Reimer vs. Bernier

That's a pretty basic logical fallacy known as an appeal to authority..

Well, sure, but the fundamental argument here is basically a different sort of logical fallacy known as an appeal to convention or argumentum ad populum. I don't see anyone actually making a convincing case for why it's bad outside of it not being the usual thing a coach does.

What we do know is that Carlyle's relationship with the goaltenders made Reimer ask for a trade after last season, which, to me, is a pretty clear indication that it's a good thing and, really, it's not working on the larger scale.

Well, no. We know that Reimer asked for a trade after a season where he lost the starter's job which is almost certainly going to cause friction and unhappiness regardless of what relationship a coach has with the player in question.

When this story originally broke a few days ago, Jamie MacLennan- former NHL goalie- said on That's Hockey that this is commonplace (Coach only telling the starter, even in a tandem situation) and there isn't anything wrong with it.

Bernier: 10 4 3 2 2.75 .913 1

Reimer:  7 4 2 0 2.65 .925 0

Toronto media being what it is, how long before they start declaring Reimer the number 1 and running with the 'comeback' and 'stealing back his net' stories?

Either way, I'm glad we have two goalies who regularly post Save % over 0.900

Remember Toskala, Gerber, Joseph, Pogge

Pogge had a pretty good season in Sweden last year, although if I were him I would have stayed in Italia.  Sure the hockey is better in Sweden, but come on, it's Italia!

Let keep Pougge, Rask is just no damn good. The big P will solve all net problems for the next 10 years, that Rask is just a bum?JFJ (front lobe at the time)

This!

Even in Midgets I was never told when I wasn't starting..I'd get the nod when it was my turn.

That's because it was never McLennan.

I suppose it makes sense that somebody who isn't enlightened enough to know who Nelson Mandela was also isn't enlightened enough to realize that he ought to find that out before a Nelson Mandela function.

Leafs are probably going to have to make a move with Reimer sooner than later.  The amount they're paying him would be okay if he was playing more, but if he's just a straight up back-up to Bernier it's money the Leafs can't really afford against the cap.

I just hope that Reimers doesn't get trade too soon because I foresee an injury if Bernier continues playing the amount he is.

So hard to watch. I had my palm firmly planted on my face.

In Quebec they call the English "Squareheads",  English call the Quebecois "Pepsi's" as they are not the real thing.  The world is awash in ignorance.

They're about even, so barring injury, I think the starter should be chosen going forward based upon which has more knowledge of a random historical figure. First up: Sir Frederick Banting.
