I actually think this is a decent deal, especially in a sellers market. The 50% retention is huge, this is a legitimate 3rd liner who we have under contract for $1.5 mil next season. I get that there's potential with Grebenkin but I think it's fair to say he's less certain to become a productive NHLer than either of Minten/Cowan and also has less trade value. Also the fact that the pick is a 2027 first rounder gives a little more time to recoup that pick (if it makes sense). Getting a 4th and a 6th back doesn't really move the needle that much, but can't hurt.
