Lupul signs five-year contract extension

I thought the shot hit him in the hand, sounds like it could have been the slash from Orpik that caused it.

six to eight weeks!  LupulBear is so po'd right now......

I mean yes this is horrible news but you really going to blame it on Phaneuf? Lupul was in front of the net then slashed by Orpik....

In fairness to Phaneuf, it was pretty clearly an accident. Phaneuf clearly wasn't aiming at Lupul you know, because he hit him.

Quite a few on twitter, if you search 'Lupul slash' seem to think it was the slash that caused it - I'm waiting on seeing a replay, I missed it during the game.

The replay is up on mapleleafs.com. It was the puck. The slash never touched his arm, and his reaction was to the puck, not the stick.

Carlyle says he expect Lupul to miss at least 6 weeks.

Sundin made it back in 26 days from a completely broken ulna bone during the 2002 playoffs but usually, it's 42-56 days. If it's a crack/fracture and not a complete or nasty break, that usually can shorten the time for recovery as I understand it. Sundin was a quick healer and they treated it with low energy ultra sound waves. Curtis Joseph made a faster than expected recovery using a similar treatment - but not as quick as Mats (6 weeks).

Historically Lupul hasn't been a quick healer.  :-\

Other than the back injury, which lead to an infection that kept him out for a year, it's typically taken him about a month to come back from every other significant injury he's had.
