Needless to say, the next 8 days are crucial to the future of this team. Man, a top 5 pick would be so nice. Please Leafs, continue to suck.

And on that note, it looks as though Rynnas will start again Saturday.  I hope for his sake the Leafs lose 1-0.

Doesn't work for me personally. I'm hoping that although unlikely now, Kessel hits 40 (I have some money on it.)  :-\

8-7 Sabres, Kessel with the hat-trick??  ;)

Rynnas with his shattered confidence and .634 save percentage be damned!!  ;D  I was hoping Kessel would crack 40 also... we need something to be excited about this season.

Okay, so where do you think the drop-off is?

I've spent more much time this year looking up the origins of Cobb salad than I have watching junior prospects so I don't have the slightest foggiest. I'm just saying that there doesn't appear to be a consensus that a top 5 pick is of monumental importance. Obviously you want to pick as high as possible but sure things seem to be pretty scarce in this draft.

Okey dokey then... I'm still curious though. Anyone who as actually done some homework know where the drop-off might be?

No offense to Ryan Miller, but I don't think there is a goaltender in the league who is capable of stealing games when he is going to face maybe 30 shots in the two games.

Yeah, when you're playing the Leafs it's less stealing games than it is graciously accepting them.

To be fair to the other team, we could refer to it as petit larceny.

Obviously nothing like this is written in stone, but from what I've read it seems like there's a drop after the 7th pick. Yakupov is of course pretty much guaranteed to go first. After that there's 3 forwards (Grigorenko, Galchenyuk, Forsberg) and 3 defencemen (Murray, Dumba, Trouba) that will probably go next in some order. Again, there's always surprises though at the draft.

Don't you suppose Faska belongs in that group? Again, I'm behind but I'm reading nice things about him.

I'm hoping that Burke can pick up a low first and take a run at Guance.  He could be Manny Malhotra, or he could be Jordan Staal.

I don't think Faksa belongs in that group Sarge, probably in the 8/9/10 group right after.

If his offensive skills develop the way his defensive skills already have, he could be a steal.

Hmmm.. Okay then, so many folks here think drafting a forward would be better than drafting the BPA. I don't agree but I get it. So, with that said and there being a drop-off after the top 3 forwards, doesn't getting that top 5 pick become as I said, crucial?

Agreed. His ceiling doesn't seem to be as high as the other 3 forwards so I don't think he'll get picked before any of them. Then again, if the forwards are all off the board and a team drafting 6th or 7th wants a forward then he might just go. Or if the risk factor of say a Galy scares a team then he might get picked ahead of him. But going BPA I don't think he's top-7.

Well, I'd say getting a top-5 pick is crucial just to allow our scouts and Burke to get the best possible player on the board. But given the way that the draft order is shaping up, there's probably a pretty decent chance we could still snag Forsberg or Galchenyuk at 6/7. Especially since Edmonton, New York, and Minnesota could all be looking at defencemen.

Also, in a situation like this I don't really think there's anything wrong with drafting positional vs. drafting BPA. It looks like there's such a small gap between those 6 forwards and defencemen that I listed that the order could really go in any way. Taking positions into account might be the only way to decide who is better.

It's not like by drafting Gal at 4 we are leaving a much better defencemen on the table.

Looking beyond our first pick, does anyone try and move up from our 2nd round pick into the latter part of the first round and go for Subban? Since we're tanking so hard, our 2nd is also gaining in value.(As I'm reading up on this, apparently the star brought up this topic a few days ago. They suggest picking him with our first pick, which is ludicrous)

From what I've read, the real drop off happens around the 10-12th pick, but, yeah, the 2nd tier of this draft appears be in the 8-10 or so range.

I think Gal's development has been stunted a little bit, but man oh man, did he ever have a great season last year. I think he might be able to pick it up.

As a side: Anyone worried about Yakupov having a concussion earlier in the year?

He only missed 3 games before returning for the playoffs, so it hasn't appeared to be that big of a deal.
