Phew, thought we might have actually won one there.

Go Yakupov/Grigorenko/Galchenyuk!

The spirit of tank is strong in you!  ;D

So how does the draft look this year? I've had my eye on Yakupov for a couple of years now. How good is the competition compared to him? Or is it kinda like the Nuge vs. everybody else in last year's draft?

It's supposed to be pretty top-heavy, so the first 10-20 picks should all be pretty decent. Yakupov is the clear-cut number 1 in most peoples opinion, although some think that Grigorenko could compete with him for that spot. After that there's a handful of defencemen available who could push Grigorenko down depending on team needs like Murray, Dumba, and Trouba. Filip Forsberg (not relation to Peter) is a Swedish powerforward who could get picked in the top-5. Alex Galchenyuk is a bit of a wild card. Last year his name was being used in the same conversation as the two top Russians, but he's been out all season with an injury. Still likely to go in the top-10, but there's obviously an element of risk there.

You all know as soon as we drop to 10 out and hopeless, we'll go on a
tear just so we screw up the draft pick right? I mean why should this year
be any different than the last 3?

Apparently Grigorenko's effort level is being questioned by some scouts, and he's not as high on everyone's lists as he was going into the season.

Dunno how 80 pts in 50 games or whatever it is gets you criticisms...but whatever.

23 Toronto       64 29 28 7 65
24 Tampa Bay 63 29 28 6 64
25 Anaheim     64 27 27 10 64
26 Carolina     64 24 27 13 61
27 NY Islanders 64 26 29 9 61

29 Edmonton     63 25 32 6 56
30 Columbus       64 19 38 7 45

The Leafs could drop to 25 in the next couple of days.  I can't believe how far they have fallen.

I can't believe how quickly I've gone from cheering hard for wins to being pleased when they keep dropping in the overall standings.

I am with you on that. It was less than 2 weeks ago I was still telling myself that they could make the playoffs etc. etc. Now I am very content with a high draft pick and a coaching change in the off-season.

I hope no one takes this wrong because over the years I have always expected the Leafs to do better then they have (I call it the 'nutman' in me) but this year I can see Anaheim and Tampa over taking the Leafs this week and Carolina and even possibly Montreal over taking Toronto before the end of the season because of Ward and Price respectively.

I don't see how the Islanders, Edmonton and Columbus could ever surge past the Leafs though.

Bottom 4 finish is quite likely this year.  Glad Burke didn't trade this year's 1st pick and next year's 1st pick and 2nd pick for Nash. It would be like deja vu all over again.

Sooo...I still want them to win but like you and Fanatic I am actually not distraught with the Leafs losing.  :)

So who's in the top 5 for the draft that is any good?  Surely we have to get someone decent that high no?  I'm pretty much resigned to this fact. Buffalo, Washington and Winnipeg all ahead of Leafs, the season is dead.

I cant beleive we're heading into a game vs Montreal where Leaf fans want the Habs to win and Hab fans want the Leafs to win...

The season is not dead yet!

We were the BEST team in the NHL for those first 10 games!  REMEMBER!?!?!  Burke said so!

No. He said we "dominated."

Burke's boastings are getting more specific. Soon he will be boasting that we play amazing on Wednesdays so we should stay the course.

It's because most of those points are against weak teams and he dissapears against good teams. Some scouts seem to be pretty disgusted with his character, I read a quote from a scout a few days ago that said something along the lines of "He's a complete dog, I wouldn't pick him if he was available at 25."
