Official Tank Nation Topic

It's because most of those points are against weak teams and he dissapears against good teams. Some scouts seem to be pretty disgusted with his character, I read a quote from a scout a few days ago that said something along the lines of "He's a complete dog, I wouldn't pick him if he was available at 25."

I think that scout needs to see a doctor.

I'm no expert in regards to the QMJHL, but just looking at the stats Grigorenko has 27 points in 19 games against the current top 5 teams in the Q (top-6 excluding his team). That rate is slightly lower than his overall scoring rate, but I can't imagine that's uncommon for players in any league.

I cant beleive we're heading into a game vs Montreal where Leaf fans want the Habs to win and Hab fans want the Leafs to win...

-Full on tank nation member.

Regardless of their position in the standings, I (and likely the majority of Leaf fans) always want the Leafs to beat the Habs. Always.

Filip Forsberg looks intriguing.

I'd prefer one of the other 3 big forwards, but he certainly wouldn't be a bad consolation prize. I think there's a very good chance we land one of those 4 considering a defenceman or two will get picked early.

Four years down the drain.

Picking up good pieces like Kessel, Gardiner, etc counts as years down the drain?

Look, it's becoming pretty obvious that this year will be a failure.  But just because we don't make the playoffs this year doesn't mean it's over.  Sure, it's annoying, aggrevating, etc.

However, hockey will come back next year.  And as long as Burke keeps stocking the system with young prospects, keeps his picks and does his drafting, the team will get better in terms of skill/personnel.

Perhaps you didn't hear the world will be ending later this year.  This is our last proverbial kick at the can.  Woe is me....  :-\

All I can say is that the Leafs will do whatever is required to screw themselves out of a top draft pick. That "whatever is necessary" will
change each game.

I unfortunately agree with this.  I still remember Devereaux hat trick on the last game of the season winning the game for the Leafs and dropping them from 5th to 7th.

I can't believe how quickly I've gone from cheering hard for wins to being pleased when they keep dropping in the overall standings.

I hope no one takes this wrong because over the years I have always expected the Leafs to do better then they have (I call it the 'nutman' in me) but this year I can see Anaheim and Tampa over taking the Leafs this week and Carolina and even possibly Montreal over taking Toronto before the end of the season because of Ward and Price respectively.

I don't see how the Islanders, Edmonton and Columbus could ever surge past the Leafs though.

Bottom 4 finish is quite likely this year.  Glad Burke didn't trade this year's 1st pick and next year's 1st pick and 2nd pick for Nash. It would be like deja vu all over again.

Sooo...I still want them to win but like you and Fanatic I am actually not distraught with the Leafs losing.  :)

Tampa Bay and Anaheim won tonight and the Leafs drop 2 more places.

Well, now I'm confused.

Don't be. The tank idea has to end. We now have a new coach for the next 3.5 years and his success is more important than whether we pick 5th or 12th.

I hope the coaching change gets things moving positively.

Please don't be confused.  It's painfully clear.  Even after a coaching change the Leafs still dropped 2 positions in the standings.  Carlyle is a failed experiement.

Tonight after the Leafs lose to the lowly Montreal Canadiens, the Leafs will only be 3 points out of being 3rd worst in the league.

(....yeah I know that I am bring facetious with my favorite team but I am shocked that they fell apart.  On paper I thought they were a playoff team...then again I thought that a team with Washington's talent would also be significantly better and higher in the standings)

I'm really happy with where we are sitting right now. Very good chance Gally or Grigs drops to us, even in the unlikely event that he doesn't, Dumba or Trouba is pretty much guaranteed to be there. Either seem to have the physical tools to be a real #1. Which I still think is something the Leafs system doesn't really have.

Dumba is a little undersized to play his physical game in the NHL though. 6' 183lbs, he plays fearless in the WHL though.

Why is this tank nation crap back... I hope they come back make the playoffs and shut this crap thread up once and for all.

Because we're in 25th place and in freefall with no parachute.  8)

Didn't Burke comment a week ago he realized it was time for a change.  About the same time this thread was started.
