A couple more losses here in short order and it may be time to get excited for the draft.  :-\

Looking at the upcoming schedule it certainly seems likely.  Tomorrow against Florida, could win that one, but then the next night in Chicago, that is a loss.

with the way they've been playing lately..they're both losses

I don't know why, but after January I was not prepared for a February that has been this bad.  Every fricken year with Wilson this team goes through a stretch where they win 1 in 10 or something ridiculous like that.

I am just ready for a coaching change, maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but Wilson sure as heck isn't working out well.

Personally, I see a turn around in the next few games. Will they make the playoffs? It will be close.

realistically ...obviously they could turn it around...but really ...we haven't seen this team play consistently good hockey for long stretches since the beginning of the season ..it seems unlikely that we're going to see it now ...considering how close we are to the bottom..a free fall might not be so bad..not that i really want to watch it

We don't need the team to win at a 80% clip here to secure that final spot. It's reasonably achieveable. I really don't see this team sinking too much more from here. But that's just an opinion. We'll have to see what happens. A lottery pick? I don't see it.

Leafs will make the playoffs, and they have the leader that will do it for them:

I'm all for tank nation - particularly if a new coach happens to come along with the high draft pick!  Be like Xmas in June.

Really... if you take away the first 10 games, the leafs have been ordinary all season long.  Glad i'm down under and too busy to try and watch/listen to games in 2012.

I think the absolute lowest we'll be able to draft is 5th. That means go Minnesota, Anaheim, Tampa, Buffalo, and New York. Minny is losing, but the Islanders and Lightning are up.

Don't be so sure...they should be able to get to 3rd.  Look at their goaltending.

Islanders blew a 2-0 lead and lost in OT. Those guys sure do know how to suck.

Getting into the top-5 really isn't out of the realm of possibility here. A number of teams below us have pretty good last-10 records.

I'm not sure a tank nation notion is even required...this team seems intent on driving this ***** of a cliff, thelma and louise style.

I've gone from loking at the standings based on conference (as though there was a playoff drive) to now looking at the standings based on the entire league so as to see where the Leafs stand in the 2012 draft.

Tank away. It will be a nice set up for Eakins.

You know, I don't want to tank.  I really don't... but I'm looking at the big picture here.

If we just bottom out, fall right into the bottom 5:

-  We get a great pick in what is supposed to be a top heavy draft
-  We will almost certainly see a coaching change
-  We will see some significant player movement in the summer.  You can be sure BB would rearrange the deck quite a bit (i.e. Schenn for a top 6 forward... possible Kulemin/Mac dealt? etc).
-  We will likely get a good look at the kids the last little bit here... call up Kadri, Colborne, and Holzer.

It would mark a real shift in this team.

So while I don't like "tanking" I'm thinking of how much better we might be positioned come September.

Well if the make the playoffs great, if they don't i just want then to be as low as they can...

So, right now (without the beating from Chicago that they will get tonight), they stand 4 points out of the dance and 4 points ahead of a top 5 pick.

I'm a bit of the same way.

Add to this that we had the opportunity to sell some assets that aren't working out (Army, for example) without necessarily giving up on the playoff race.

In the summer Armstrong, Connolly, Lombardi, MacArthur, Lupul, and Steckal all have 1 year left on their contracts.

I'd obviously keep Lupul.  The others?  Several can go for picks/prospects while we play Kadri/Colborne full time.

While this might be an unpopular thing to do, I'd also consider moving Lupul for the right player... You know, sell high?

The  mere existence of a "Tank Nation" thread. let alone an annual one, is a damning indictment of the management (including coaching) of this team.

In fact, this regime has become "self tanking".

It's just that automatic.
