I think his comments about Gardiner were a bit off-side. He pretended not to reveal who it is but referred to him as an "offensive minded, rover type" of defenseman or something like that. It was obvious he was talking about Gardiner when he said he was shocked by who he compared himself to in the league, as if to suggest that Gardiner is delusional about his own ability.
Maybe he shouldn't have said it, but he's not wrong.
It's a crappy comment by a coach about his own player. Maybe Carlyle knows he's getting fired anyway so didn't care.
And now we see why everyone is worried Gardiner will be traded if Carlyle stays. It's more than just teams ask about him because he's good - there seems to be a genuine issue there.
I don't think the issue is specific to Carlyle.
You don't think the fact there is an issue between Carlyle/Gardiner is specific to Carlyle? Not sure I'm following.
I think that the issue that Carlyle has with Gardiner is not specific to Carlyle. That another coach would have the same issue. The issue being Gardiner isn't as good as he thinks he is.
Who cares how good he thinks he is? He can think he's Bobby Orr mixed with Wayne Gretzky for all I care. He plays very good on the ice and that's all I care about, and the possession stats back that up.
