And you know, I lost some respect for Mac after saying he checked out mentally after he was benched.

That bugged me also.

I think it's a mis-speak from MacArthur on that one.  He went on to talk about how he knew he was done in Toronto and wasn't coming back at that point.  I don't think he checked out mentally from hockey, but from the Leafs.  I don't really blame him under the circumstances.  He played well, not amazing, all year and was benched for Orr/McLaren in the postseason.  He scored some big goals in the playoffs for the Leafs after the team sucked early on.  I don't think that is very good evidence of a guy who checked out mentally.

Regardless of his play, to me there are things you just don't say in the media and these kinds of things never seem to come out right. It's the same as Grabo beakin' off in the media about the coach also, it bothers me. Be a man and talk to Carlyle about it or simply don't say it. Everybody gets benched, just do your talking on the ice or in the coaches office.

Clarke's a decent guy and I had no problems with him or his play while he was here, but slamming people on the way out isn't cool.

I like that Carlyle is doing stuff like this.  Too much of a taskmaster all the time and you could be tuned out or resented.

Courtesy of Kevin McGran:

Tonight is Carlyle's 82nd game as Leafs coach: 42-31-8 (.568%)

Pretty good record considering he took over a team that was an 18 wheeler going off the cliff...I was very disappointed in the hiring of Carlyle but he seems to generally get the most out of his players.

If only he would stop dressing both McLaren and Orr, and play his 4th line more than 5 min/night especially on back-to-back nights.

Carlyle needs to go. He's making this team worse than it is.

I have a lot of sympathy for that sentiment ... the defense is slipping back toward Wilsonian levels of incompetence, is what alarms me.

But unless the expectation is that we should be 17-0 at this stage  :) I think he's safe at 11-5.

The team just needs to get out of this mindset that they can get outplayed every night and still win. It won't last.

I think 11-5 is right around where they should be, but I believe they are 11-5 in spite of Carlyle's system, not because of it. When stuff hits the fan, the Leafs need something to default to that doesn't involve getting massively outplayed by design. Not to mention game 7 again but I think it makes my point pretty clearly.

The defense looked better and the team had a better transition game under Wilson; it was just that the awful goaltending culminated in lots of goals against. Imagine if Carlyle was getting .900 sv% from his starters? This team would be 0-16.

People need to realize that this team's 'talent' level isn't quite what they think it is.

While I don't agree with everything Carlyle does(dressing the goons), you play with the cards that you are dealt. Unfortunately as this team continues to be shaped, you have to work with what god gave ya and unfortunately it's an inconsistant bunch of 'B' level players being made look better by their goalies.

The talent level is there, Carlyle is just folding with a full house.

Only in Toronto would fans be calling for the head of a 11-5 coach.

Or maybe people who like to frequent discussion boards like to delve deeper into a team's play than simply looking at their record and shooting rainbows out their rear-ends?

I'm fine with that but if one's going to delve, why not point out some of the positive things too? - Okay, we're getting outshot game after game and that can't keep going but there are also some impressive things him and his staff have done too. - Like (dare I say) build elite special teams.  Okay, some of that's on the goaltending but not exclusively. I'll admit, I've only seen 5 games this year in it's entirety but I've seen tons of very heady plays when either up or down a player.

I mean seriously, where would this team be with a different coach, 11-5?
