4th place is still pretty likely. The Leafs have 64 points with 5 games left. Carolina has 67 points with 6 games left. Even if we win 2 of the next 5 it would mean that Carolina just needs 1 win in their 6 to stay ahead of us.

agreed. So it looks like Strome then.

Sure, if you want to make multiple assumptions about multiple unknowns.

The Kadri, Rielly, and Nylander picks all took me by surprise. Kadri and Rielly in particular were two guys who weren't even being discussed on these boards as guys the Leafs might pick. This one's a little more cut and dried as it's almost definitely Strome or Marner at this point, but I wouldn't call it a guarantee one way or another.

IMO again, the only way it is different is if the Leafs win the Lottery. Not going to happen with Bettman in charge. My prediction is ARI wins the draft. It helps save Bettman's pet project.

Yeah, like I said, multiple assumptions, apparently including some doozies.

Outside of your conspiracy theory, there's the very significant and legitimate possibility that, even if the Leafs finish 4th, somebody outside the top 4 wins the lottery, the Leafs drop to 5, and Strome is picked top 4.  Or, like Carlton said, maybe the Leafs pick Marner over Strome, anyway.

Or if the Leafs think Marner is better than Strome.

I wonder how much say Hunter will have if it comes to a call between Strome and Marner?

It wouldn't be a huge leap to think he rates Marner very highly given the connection.

This is something that Sheldon Keefe said about his and Dubas' shared hockey vision:

?For us, the value of speed and skill and hockey sense would far outweigh any physical attributes. We wanted people who have the ability to make plays and have speed.

Again, just based off that blanket statement I don't think it would be nuts to suggest that Dubas would prefer Marner over Strome too. Not that Strome doesn't have skill, but Marner likely has the edge in that category and he's a significantly better skater than Strome is.

Please hire him Leafs.

Or if the win streak continues and they get leap frogged by a team behind them in the lottery. Who would you pick at #6?

Like I said before, they'll likely have to win 3 of the next 5 to pass Carolina, which means they'll have won 5 out of 7 games. I don't see that happening. If it does, I'm probably leaning towards Provorov. Maybe Mathew Barzal, whose likely under-ranked because of his injury.

Or, just maybe they trade up using the Nashville pick?  :o

They way they have played the last two games, winning 3 of 5 is a clear possibility. And the odds of some team behind them winning the lottery is pretty high as well. I would not dismiss the real possibility of them picking at #6.

A loss to Buffalo this evening should cure them of that whole winning thing.

And a win means all they need to do is play.500 hockey in their last four games to potentially ruin the chance to pick 4th or 5th. Can you tell I'm skeptical about them getting a top 5 pick.

True enough. Nothing we can do, but get upset if they reel off a bunch of wins to end this dreadful season.  >:( absolute worst case is picking at #6, so it's not all that bad.(unless its Ottawa that gets McDavid and pushes our pick from 5 to 6) :o
